Thursday, October 16 is a great day to wear purple. Since 2010, the third Thursday in October has been chosen by GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) as a day to recognize and honor LGBT youth. LGBT youth are often the victims of bullying in high school. The bullying issue in general has been a hot topic over the past several years, with many teen suicides prompting the public to take a closer look at the issue. Many television programs have dedicated episodes to the topic of bullying, some in more comedic ways, some in very serious ways. Watching a character overcome a powerful enemy is something that always excites the audience, especially when that enemy is a bully. Take a look at some of our favorite TV episodes that featured bullying.
It takes a lot of guts to be out in high school, and you can show your support by wearing purple on Thursday, October 16.
