Storm Siren coverSYNOPSIS:

In a world at war, a slave girl’s lethal curse could become one kingdom’s weapon of salvation. If the curse—and the girl—can be controlled.

As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isn’t merely devoid of rights, her Elemental kind are only born male and always killed at birth — meaning, she shouldn’t even exist.

Standing on the auction block beneath smoke-drenched mountains, Nym faces her fifteenth sell. But when her hood is removed and her storm-summoning killing curse revealed, Nym is snatched up by a court advisor and given a choice: be trained as the weapon Faelen needs to win the war, or be killed.

Choosing the former, Nym is unleashed into a world of politics, bizarre parties, and rumors of an evil more sinister than she’s being prepared to fight . . . not to mention the handsome trainer whose dark secrets lie behind a mysterious ability to calm every lightning strike she summons.

But what if she doesn’t want to be the weapon they’ve all been waiting for?

WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?

Defiant slave girl, elemental powers, and a war-ravaged kingdom, plus a bit of romance and this paranormal fantasy sounds like a great way to spend some of the last hours by the pool or hiding in the cool air.  This is also the first in a trilogy, so we know there’s plenty more adventure on the way.

There is a fairytale feel to this cover, reminiscent in its blues, whites, and silvers of Disney’s FROZEN.  Nym has a very Elsa look about her as well, as she weilds the lightning rather than snow.  The red swirling tattoos etched on her exposed arm lend an air of mystery, as well.

From what we gather, this is author Mary Weber’s first foray into the young adult world, stepping in after several children’s books.  We look forward to seeing how this series turns out!

EARLY REVIEWS SAY…

Weber builds a fascinating and believable fantasy world… The story ends with a gutsy surprise that many readers will find unusual in this genre and that leaves them poised for the next volume. (Kirkus Reviews)

[A] detailed backdrop and large cast bring vividness to the story. … The story takes a surprisingly dark turn as the narrative pieces fall into place for the next book in this planned trilogy. (Publishers Weekly)
