My Life with the Walter Boys became an instant teen drama hit after being released on Netflix in early December 2023, so much so that it was recently renewed for a second season. If you are looking to learn more about the series, we have an exclusive interview with Jaylan Evans, who plays Skylar Summerhill on the show. Skylar is the love interest of Nathan Walter, one of the Walter brothers. Jaylan talked to us about the audition process, his relationship with the rest of the cast and what it was like to appear in his first major role on such a popular show.
“I called my mom and told her I am going to be a series regular on Netflix and she started screaming and jumping up and down.”
As always, we will avoid any spoilers for the show in case you haven’t yet watched it but will give our readers a little refresher about its premise. My Life with the Walter Boys follows recently-orphaned Jackie Howard, a teenage girl from Manhattan played by Nikki Rodriguez, who is forced to move to a ranch in Colorado following a family tragedy. There, she is taken in by the Walter family and their seven sons.
Jaylan grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina, graduated from Elon University with a degree in theater and has been acting since he was 13. Prior to My Life with the Walter Boys, he had a number of guest roles on shows like Spirit Rangers and Power Book III: Raising Kanan, but playing Skylar Summerhill is his first major regular series role. Jaylan told us that a major challenge coming from a theater background was that you can’t rely on a live audience in film and television. Thankfully, he received a lot of tips from his co-stars, both seasoned and new.

Jaylan also gave us insight into the audition process after seeing a listing online for the role of Skylar which prompted him to throw his hat in the ring for it. After booking the role, he had to move to Canada for five months to film, all on a few days’ notice! Jaylan talked about how surreal it all felt initially but that it also was a dream come true to book this role as he connected with Skylar’s character instantly!
We also asked Jaylan about what it was like to work with Corey Fogelmanis, who played Nathan and Skylar’s love interest. Jaylan said it wasn’t difficult as they had a great friendship and also worked with an intimacy coordinator. All in all, Jaylan raved about his friendships with all the cast members, giving us insight into fun bonding experiences and amusing behind-the-scenes moments.
“Maybe Skylar is team Cole, I don’t know. I feel like Sylar is above the drama and doesn’t really want to get involved and doesn’t want to see Jackie hurt. He is focused on his school work and just wants to get out of the small town and chase his dreams.”
