Teen Wolf, S03E19 – “Letharia Vulpina


This week’s Teen Wolf was crazy high octane! It started with a bang and didn’t let up. We open with Deaton showing up to help a sick wolf. Deaton figures out that the wolf ingested a potent strain of moss called letharia vulpina. The moss is toxic to a wolf, especially if the wolf has nogitsune blood, which this one does. This sick wolf was actually crying wolf, however, and is the son of the nogitsune we saw a few episodes back in flashback. He pulls a gun on Deaton but Deaton is ahead of him and actually planted the moss.  We cut to Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital where the live wire causes injury and terror and destruction. As the street is flooded with water, it’s electrified and several people are injured. Kira grabs the wire and stops it from harming more people but not before Isaac is injured.

 

Isaac is taken to the hospital. We jump ahead 2 days and learn that Stiles is still missing and Isaac is still in the hospital. The sheriff gets a text from Stiles telling him he’s okay and not to look for him. Melissa helps Allison and Scott sneak into Isaac’s room. Scott attempts to heal Isaac but is not successful. Scott and Kira figure out that the reason the nogitsune is causing all of this injury and mayhem is because it was offended. They can’t figure out how or who did it though. In the locker room, Scott, Aiden, and Ethan hear strange sounds coming from the basement and find that Stiles there. Stiles has suffered from a blackout and says he doesn’t know where he’s been for the past few days or what he’s been doing. Chris realizes that someone broke into his house, only to find it’s Derek. Derek tries to defend himself by saying Chris left one of his emitters in his loft.

 

McCall comes in right at this moment and announces that Katashi is dead. He’s basically accusing Derek and Chris of committing the deed and takes them down to the police station. Back at school we see Mrs. and Mr. Yukimura talk about the oni and the nogitsune Mrs. Yukimura has been sacrificing each of her nine tails in order to create the oni and stop the nogitsune. This is amazing but even more so considering she’s willing to sacrifice her life in order to stop the nogitsune.

 

The group realizes there’s a bomb and it’s going to go off and potentially destroy everyone. When the bomb goes off, Derek protects Chris from the blast. That’s even more amazing considering the fact that they have such a fraught history. Scott and Stiles arrive at the crime scene. Scott continues to heal people at a rapid pace. Kira tells everyone the oni are coming. They show up at the clinic in short order and things seem to be going their way in fighting them but Scott gets distracted and gets stabbed in the stomach. In an act of betrayal, Stiles knocks Kira out and tries to end Scott. Deaton shows up and injects Stiles with a compound of the moss.
