The Body in the Woods

SYNOPSIS:

Alexis, Nick, and Ruby have very different backgrounds: Alexis has spent her life covering for her mom’s mental illness, Nick’s bravado hides his fear of not being good enough, and Ruby just wants to pursue her eccentric interests in a world that doesn’t understand her.

When the three teens join Portland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, they are teamed up to search for an autistic man lost in the woods. What they find instead is a dead body. In a friendship that will be forged in danger, fear, and courage, the three team up to find the girl’s killer—before he can strike one of their own.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?

For the more outdoorsy reader who still enjoys a whodunnit comes the start of a new young adult mystery series. With a trio of brave teens, a wooded setting, and a killer on the loose, this is bound to be a fun way to kick this off!

The cover doesn’t exactly scream murder-mystery, but it’s pretty all the same. If the girl visible beneath the vibrant foliage is the victim, however, she was impeccably made-up at the time–and that has us intrigued!

Author April Henry is no stranger to the mysteries, too. Maybe you’ve read her most recent novels “The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die”, “The Night She Disappeared”, and “Girl, Stolen”. If not, check them out!

EARLY REVIEWS SAY…

Short, obsessive chapters from the unidentified killer’s point of view add to the suspense … A quick, thrilling read that doesn’t skimp on characterization. (Kirkus Reviews)

The author’s expertise at plotting a murder mystery and knowledge of police procedure are evident as the novel moves through all the expected moments of a TV crime drama, building to a violent confrontation. (Publishers Weekly)
