The importance of a great TV theme song cannot be underestimated. A great theme song can help propel a show into millions of homes and ingrain itself in the national consciousness. Few shows have as iconic a theme song as The OC. The show, written by a then 24 year old Josh Schwartz, followed the glamorous lives and loves of kids living in Orange County. It was part of a national dialogue that included Laguna beach and was very topical. The theme song for the show was a flier, given that the band was a little known act at the time. Phantom Planet wrote a song called California, which pretty much summed up the heart of the show. Check out the video below and see if you can spot a young Jason Schwartzman on the drums. The song remains one of our favorites to this day and is definitely a tune that can help get the summer off to the right start.
