Klaus finally has his kingdom back, but the Mikaelsons are more divided than ever. It’s clear that all families have problems!
Joseph Morgan turned out some of his best work as big, bad hybrid Klaus to date, and the final scene between Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah was absolutely heartbreaking. Clearly, all Klaus has ever wanted was his family, but he has a funny way of showing it. However, after the initial shock of impeding fatherhood wore off, Klaus really tried to work with his siblings — he let Elijah handle Sophie Deveraux and the witches, and he even sat back as Rebekah fell back in love with his foe, Marcel. When it came time for his siblings to trust him, they failed, choosing to trust Tyler Lockwood instead.
“I make no excuses for past sins, but in the one moment when you two could have chosen to stand by me, to believe in me, believe my intentions for my own child were pure, you chose to stand against me — to side with my enemies.” He really couldn’t have said it better. Poor Klaus!
It’s hard to imagine Klaus as a doting dad, but he truly does love this child, and it’s never been as apparent than now. He just wanted his family back. Sure, he showed it a little differently than Elijah, who still believes Klaus can be redeemed and his broken family fixed, but Klaus only ever wanted to share his kingdom with his siblings.
Rebekah, on the other hand, betrayed his trust by siding with her love Marcel. We still don’t know if Rebekah and Marcel are really a couple at this point. What do you think? Vampire Barbie takes out Tyler Lockwood with one flick of her and helps Marcel and crew craft the perfect plan to take down Klaus. Marcel seems to think that if he gathered his entire army, they’ll be able to capture Klaus and bury him in The Garden. Unfortunately, they were very wrong.
It should be noted that Klaus is the Original hybrid and, therefore, has the ablity to take out Marcel’s entire army when he kicks it into hyper-hybrid mode. In an effort to save Marcel and stop the madness, Rebekah tells Marcel to grab the coin Klaus had placed on the floor at the beginning of the rumble. By doing so, Marcel would have to pledge his allegiance to Klaus. By the end of the episode, the tables had turned and Klaus was back on the throne, taking his Little Wolf with him.
As for Elijah and Hayley, it’s clear these two have fallen for one another, but Elijah is hesitant to show his true feelings after what happened to his former love Celeste, a witch he fell for back in the 1800s. As soon as Klaus found out about his love for Celeste, she was as good as dead. Clearly, Elijah doesn’t want the past to repeat itself.
With Klaus back in control, we’re curious to see how this affects Elijah and Rebekah. Will Elijah continue his deal with Davina? As for Hayley, Elijah and Rebekah were starting to feel like the only family she had ever known, and if Klaus hears word of her ancestors in the bayou, he’ll definitely want to see them dead.
We’re loving the power dynamics in this episode especially. Each week, an intriguing new alliance is formed. Klaus is back on top now, but Marcel and his men could be planning a overthrow. On the other hand, will Marcel and Klaus rekindle their old companionship? And then there’s unfortunate Tyler, who is being kept in Marcel’s dangerous garden. Seeing how he wants to see Hayley’s baby dead before Klaus can use her to create a hybrid army, will he turn to Sophie Deveraux for help?
The riffs built between the Mikaelsons are keeping this show exciting and entertaining. At this point, the Mikaelsons are so damaged, we worry even perfect Elijah won’t be able to fix it. What do you think will happen next?
