With The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder coming to Disney+ on February 23rd. Let’s take a look back at some of the music used in the original series that ran from 2001 to 2005. Music from the show was a combination of original music by the characters, R&B hits, and classic soul. Because some of the songs from The Proud Family were made specifically for the show and are not on the playlist, songs that represent the show or were popular during the early 2000s were added in their place.
Up first is the iconic Proud Family theme song. Even after years of The Proud Family not being on-air, this song is so easily recognizable. The lyrics of the theme describe the show so well. “You and me will always be tight (Be tight)/Family every day and night (Day and night)/Even when you start acting like a fool (Fool)/You know I’m loving every single thing you do (Fo)”. The theme was originally done by Destiny’s Child. So of course some of the iconic songs from the trio were added to the playlist as well. Take a peek at “Jumpin’Jumpin” and “Independent Woman, Pt. 1.”
The show did not shy away from making sure the classics were represented. Songs like “Respect” by Aretha Franklin, “Good Times” by Chic, “More Love” by Smokey and the Miracles, “Use Ta Be My Girl” by The O’Jays, and “You’ll Never Find a Love Like Mine” by Lou Rawls can all be found in episodes of the show!
Because The Proud Family is a Disney show made during the early 2000’s it is imperative some Disney bops make the list. “Strut”, “Amigas Cheetahs”, and “The Party’s Just Begun” all by The Cheetah Girls are sure to bring back nostalgic Disney memories.
