The Vampire Diaries, S05E12 – “The Devil Inside”

This week’s episode sees Katherine taking Matt’s vervain bracelet and using it as leverage to get info from him on Elena.  Meanwhile, Nadia tells Katherine that she needs to give her smelly old corpse to Mia so that she can keep Elena’s body forever.  Damon, however, has taken Katherine’s body and won’t say where. Meanwhile Stefan enlists Caroline to help him get Damon and Elena back together; Damon just gets too belligerent and murdery when she’s not around. There’s more day drinking going on this episode, between Damon and Tyler they’ve pretty much got the town’s whiskey quota covered.  Caroline finds Damon at The Grill, and together they text Elena, who nobody has seen for a while.

Enzo returns to the Salvatore mansion with Aaron in a body bag; he wants Damon to kill Aaron.  Damon has a (relatively) nice moment and instead sets Aaron free.  Meanwhile, Tyler is throwing a party and Katherine decides to go (as Elena) and ask Stefan flat out where Katherine’s body is.  Whilst she’s there, she can’t resist the urge to stir up some trouble by asking Caroline, in Tyler’s earshot, how it was sleeping with Klaus.  Cue Caroline slinking away to some serious pouting from Tyler.   Katherine manages to find out that her body is being held in the tomb, and goes there with Mia.  Whilst Mia is performing the incantation, Elena’s spirit manages to get to the forefront and escape.  However, Mia didn’t need Elena to be there to complete the spell, and as Elena rushes back to the party, Katherine ends up winning out and Damon’s speech to get Elena back falls upon Katherine’s ears.  She tells him he made the right decision; the relationship is over.  Instead of paying Mia off for helping her to get Elena’s body, Katherine kills her. The episode ends with a confrontation; Enzo is lying in the road and Aaron stops his car to ask if he’s ok.  Then Damon arrives, and Aaron goads him about Elena.  It doesn’t take much for Damon to snap and kill Aaron.  Is Damon going to be able to hold it together now he and Elena aren’t an item?  And when is Elena going to stop messing around and reclaim her body?  Tune in next time to find out.
