THE REMAINING

Summed up as:This Is The End minus the comedy plus a bit of Cloverfield. In other words, cool!

Be sure not to miss: The gorgeous Italia Ricci, whom we had the pleasure of interviewing last week!

Scariest thing in the trailer: The airplane crashing on the buildings

Worth seeing opening weekend? We shall be there.

BOOK OF LIFE

Summed up as:The Nightmare Before Christmas goes to MEXICO!!!!

Be sure not to miss: It sounds like Channing Tatum is having about as much here as his gleefully #NSFW cameo in the movie referenced above, This Is The End (we mean, a lot!!!).

Funniest thing in the trailer: Ice Cube doing his best Robin Williams as an imaginative genie-like character named the Candle Maker.

Worth seeing opening weekend? With Guillermo Del Toro producing, this homage to the breathtaking universe of Dia de los Muertos is quite simply a must-see.

PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR

Summed up as: The undeniably funny-looking spinoff featuring those kooky birds from Madagascar.

Funniest thing in the trailer: The cheese snack moment!

Coolest thing: The crosswalk camouflage moment.

Worth seeing opening weekend? Not especially, but it does look so hilarious and cuuuute….

LEFT BEHIND

Summed up as: Nic Cage in yet another event/end of the world/disaster/insert here movie ridden with vehicular disasters. Looks eerily similar to The Remaining above, too.

Be sure not to miss:Back to the Future’s Lea Thompson, getting serious screen time here!

Did they show too much? No! We want to see more of Jordin Sparks as an actress.

Worth seeing opening weekend? Only if you really like Nicolas Cage (there are not many of us).

BELIEVE ME

Summed up as: A morality tale with an economic and timely punch.

Be sure not to miss:Max Adler, our fave actor from Glee, with the brilliant finishing touch here.

Did they show too much? Yes! We do not need to know if they get caught or not.

Worth seeing opening weekend? Why not?

WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY

Summed up as: An adolescent travel/adventure movie with awesome accents.

Be sure not to miss: The opening scene of this trailer is pretty brilliant.

Funniest thing in the trailer: The F-in’ B-word of a monologue by an amazing young actor named Bobby Smalldridge, and the reaction it produces in the adults.

Worth seeing opening weekend? Stream it online!

TWO NIGHT STAND

Summed up as: A What If that is gimmicky, but can still be played right: what if you got stuck with a one night stand the morning after? Like physically trapped due to a freak snow storm?

We are thrilled because: This is undoubtedly Analiegh Tipton’s first lead role, after character turns in films like Warm Bodies and Lucy (a movie she stole in literally one scene). We couldn’t be happier for her!

Funniest thing in the trailer: Miles Teller being Miles Teller.

Worth seeing opening weekend? We’ll give it a shot.

Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story – Teaser clip

Summed up as: Title says it all. Definitely falls into the so-ridic-it’s-amazing category!

Funniest thing in the trailer: The toughest choice ever: Lark Voorhees’ behavior, or how about the Elisabeth Berkeley to the rescue moment?

Cutest thing in the trailer: Zak Morris’s face!!! (aka Degrassi: TNG’s Campbell Saunders!!!!)

DVR or watch it? WATCH IT!!!

HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS aka WATERCOLOR POSTCARDS – Teaser clip

Summed up as: Bailee Madison (The Fosters’ Sophia) takes control in this preview of her new film.

Best thing about the clip: How incredibly mature and on point Bailee seems opposite costar Laura Bell Bundy (Hart of Dixie).

Did they show too much? Not even close! We are intrigued.

Watch it or DVR it? We want to see more, but DVR for now.

PREMATURE

Summed up as: The horny teenage version of Groundhog Day.
Weirdest thing in the trailer: How everyone in the cast sort of looks like someone (is the love interest Madeline Zima from The Nanny? Is the lead Topher Grace’s younger brother?), but isn’t.
Most shocking? The wet spots on Rob’s package and the use of profanity. A little much for a high school movie trailer!
Worth seeing it opening weekend? Just VOD Groundhog’s Day!

GOTHAM

That’s right folks, we do TV trailers too!
Summed up as: The origin story for Commissioner Jim Gordon, and by extension Bruce Wayne, Catwoman, Penguin and lots of other denizens of the infamous city.
Coolest thing in the trailer: Definitely the meeting of Gordon and a frightened young little boy who just witnessed his parents’ murder. I.e., The Dark Knight himself as a young boy.
Biggest fear? That this is just a glorified but ultimately unimaginative procedural, or that it makes the same mistakes as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Watch it or DVR it? This is a definite watch on premiere night!

MALEFICENT (international Trailer)

Summed up as: Sleeping Beauty getting the Wicked treatment.
Weirdest thing in the trailer: Is it terrible to say that the more we see of this movie, the less interesting it looks? The live-action version of the three-colored fairies are so literal and flat, it gives us great pause about the piece as a whole…
Most exciting? Always good to get more of Elle Fanning. We also love Lana Del Ray’s version of “Once Upon a Dream”!
Worth seeing it opening weekend? This is Disney, who have a great track record, so yes.

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Summed up as: The sequel to the reboot (sadly, this isn’t unheard of at all anymore)
Coolest thing in the trailer: To its credit, the cool thing about this new version is the original way the plague was set up in the first film, and how the aftermath seems to play out here.
Most predictable thing: Of course, people are the villains here. But Gary Oldman makes a damn good one!
Worth seeing it opening weekend? If you liked the first one…

22 JUMP STREET (international Trailer)

Summed up as: Those boys are up to their old tricks again! Which boys? Which old tricks? Exactly. But it’s Jonah Hill being funny and Channing Tatum trying to be. And they’re ‘taking it to the next level’ – going to college.
Funniest thing in the trailer: The ‘uncomfortable fistfight’ between Hill and an unnamed stocky female opponent.
Worth seeing it opening weekend? As far as sequels go, we’re gonna say no.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Summed up as: A full-on screen adaptation of the classic children’s book.
Funniest thing in the trailer: For a Steve Carell movie, the laughs seem pretty minor, even if there is gag upon gag upon gag here. We think this is ultimately going to be a sensitive family film
Most exciting? Definitely Jennifer Coolidge as the driving instructor! Oh and Bella Thorne as the girlfriend.
Worth seeing it opening weekend? Just VOD Groundhog’s Day? But Steve C. could really use a hit, so if you like him go see this…
