If you haven’t yet heard of We Are Forever, you will shortly. The current iteration of the band has only been pushing hard to make their mark on music since 2011, and they’ve accomplished so much in a short amount of time. With the release of their first full length album, Seasons, in 2012, and a surprise hit with a cover of Ellie Goulding’s “Lights”, this group doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. YA got a chance to talk with WAF about all things music, the meaning behind their band name and other DELICIOUS topics. Enjoy, we did!
Young Adult Magazine: Tell us a little bit about yourselves when you all were younger…where did you grow up?
We Are Forever: We all grew up in Indianapolis pretty close to the city, all on the northeast side of Indy. We unknowingly all grew up within 10 minutes of each others houses, which now comes in handy. We all love Indianapolis and have really loved growing up here.
YA: What were you guys like in school?
WAF: We were all heavily involved with music in high school. With Ricky and Aren in choir and Alex and the other Alex in multiple band classes we were all very involved with our schools performing arts. This is actually where we all met each other, we all went to the same high school and found each other through the music programs and it all started there.
YA: How did you get your start in entertainment?
WAF: Some of us have been in other band before this, but this is for sure the biggest and best thing we have all been apart of. Also in high school being in the bands and choirs we got a lot of experience playing with other people and performing.
YA: We Are Forever is a very intense name for a band…in a good way! How did you guys come up with the name?
WAF: We get asked this a lot, and we love the name. We aren’t say we as a band or people will be around for every, but hopefully our music and what we leave behind will be. We want our kids to be able to listen to our music on the radio when they’re old enough to drive. That is really what we mean by We Are Forever.
YA: What has been your biggest success to date?
WAF: Our biggest success would probably have to be playing the Indianapolis date of Warped Tour. This was a huge step for us as a band and really was a dream come true to us. To play with all those amazing musicians on such an amazing tour was incredible, truly a once in a lifetime experience, that is until we get on the whole warped tour 😉
YA: Your cover of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Lights’ was a breakout for you guys in a way; tell us a little more about that.
WAF: We were amazed at how our cover took off. We are still amazed at the fact that it almost has 75,000 views now. We never thought it was going to get as big as it has; we just did it to give the fans something new in between writing the two albums.
YA: Do you have a mentor? If so, tell us a little more about him/her.
WAF: No we really have done everything ourselves from the very start. We have learned a lot by doing it all ourselves and even made a few mistakes, but we have definitely learned from every mistake we’ve made. It would have probably made it a little easier if we had someone coaching us along the way.
YA: Tell us a little more about your vision as a group and your image.
WAF: Our vision as a group is really just to play great music, have fun, and live our dreams of being musicians. We really want to portray the image of being a great pop rock band that sends a good positive message and to create music for a wide variety of people.
YA: Quick: Pick one adjective to describe yourselves!
WAF: Delicious
YA: That’s a good one! Who are some of your favorite artists or bands?
WAF: Some of our favorite bands include Marianas Trench, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Go Radio, Panic At The Disco, and Korn.
YA: Who would you most like to work with?
WAF: We would absolutely love to work with Josh Ramsay from Marianas Trench. He is a fantastic musician and a very talented producer and songwriter. He wrote and produced all of Marianas Trenche’s music which is one of our biggest influences.
YA: What do you have coming up?
WAF: We have a lot of new things coming up that we are very excited about. September 3rd we will be releasing our new album “To Be Alive”. Our CD release show will be later that month and we can’t wait to release the details about because we have a huge surprise. Also we will hopefully be touring this fall and winter and will be releasing more details on that as soon as they come in.
YA: What can you tell others pursuing the same career?
WAF: Don’t’ settle for anything less than perfect. Always make the absolute best product you can from the music to the merchandise. Give off a very professional vibe, but do not be cocky, respect your elders also.
YA: What’s your favorite book or what book are you currently reading?
WAF: None of us really read books all that much, but we do watch a lot of Pokémon. I believe Ricky is on episode 200 something. We should probably read more.
YA: What are three things you want your fans to know about you that they might not?
WAF: None of us go party or drink or do anything, we’re pretty boring people. We all work 5 days a week and live with our parents so we could save up money so we could tour. We’re very open with our fans and talk to them a lot, so they know a lot about us.
