Throwback Thursday: Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato’s latest single “Cool for the Summer” has everyone talking. Some people are not about it, criticizing it being too much like Katy Perry’s 2008 anthem, “I Kissed a Girl.” Other’s are hailing it as the LGBT anthem of the summer.

What do you think?

Is it about same sex experimentation?

Demi responded to the criticism on her personal twitter in the best way possible saying:

“sounds nothing like it and with all the advances we’ve made in the LGBT community…I think more than one female artist can kiss a girl and like it…”

Demi is no stranger to critism. She’s faced more than her share in her career and has openly struggled with self-acceptance. She is known for honestly speaks about her past with self-harm, weight struggles, and more. The past few years her philanthropic efforts have grown ten-fold. She has become known as an active advocate for many underrepresented communities including latinos, LGBT, women, and more.

Some people forget that Demi is not only a philanthropist and musician but also an actress. She spent years starring on her own show “Sonny with a Chance” and got her big break starring along side the Jonas Brothers in the smash hit Disney Channel Original Move, “Camp Rock.”

For YE’s Throwback Thrusday we’re going all the way back to the 2009 hit film and the single that officially put her on the map, “This is Me.” Seeing who she’s become the message of this old song becomes even more poignant.
