Thunderman Jack Griffo

Coyly billed as ‘a teen heartthrob on the rise’, cutie patootie Jack Griffo is definitely a YA actor to watch out for, with a musical edge to boot. After appearing on Bucket & Skinner, Kickin’ It, Jessie and Marvin Marvin, this fall he can be seen starring in Nickelodeon’s brand new superhero series The Thundermans, which revolves around a suburban family with superpowers.  Parents Barb and Hank have recently retired their powers, while twins Phoebe (Kira Kosarin) and Max (played by Jack) are just learning how to use them.  As the resident black sheep of the family and aspiring super villain, Max is a fun role for Jack to tackle, which he discussed with us below.

On the music front, Griffo has achieved accidental YouTube success, boasting over 2 million video views on his account, and growing.

Jack Griffo imageYOUNG ADULT: Hey Jack! The Thundermans sounds like a very fun, imaginative show. What do you love most about the concept?

Jack Griffo: I love the sense of family combined with the awesomeness of having superpowers. We already feel like a real family, down to the sibling rivalry!

YA: Describe your character Max? Who is he? What about him most resembles you?

JG: Max is the bad boy in the family. He’s confident and lives to cause mayhem. I think he’s very different from me, but he definitely looks like me!

YA: What superpower would you personally love to have most?

JG: I think it would be cool to be able to regenerate, like to heal yourself.

YA: Any fun stories to happen off set?

JG: Kira [Kosarin, who plays Max’s twin sis] and I love to play videogames when we get off work. 🙂

YA: You’ve been acting now for awhile. How do you manage school and work at the same time?

JG: Well I’m homeschooled, which is hard because I’m a really social person. I try to fill my extra time being with my friends so I don’t get weird, haha.

YA: What has been the best acting or professional advice you’ve received?

JG: There has been a ton of great advice, but something someone said to me recently is, “don’t worry about the future. Just enjoy the ‘now’ and let what happens happen.”

YA: Aside from acting, you are involved in other creative pursuits like music. What do you hope to achieve in that arena?

JG: I’m really not sure. Music has always been something I’ve done on the side, when I’m not acting, but I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of a career in music sometime down the road.

YA: If you could play any role from any film or TV show in history, who would it be and why?

JG: I would play Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell! It was just such a great role and excellent television show, especially for teenagers.

YA: What would you say is your favorite YA story, book or film?

JG: There are a bunch I love, but The Outsiders is one of my favorite coming of age stories for young adults.
