Tomorrow People, S01E14 – “Brother’s Keeper”

The Tomorrow People - Brother's Keeper

The episode begins with Stephen’s mom telling him that they need to leave – she has already packed Astrid and her father off on a bus. Jedikiah bursts in with some armed men, telling Stephen that the Founder ordered the hit on Astrid and trying to make peace with him. Stephen is angry that Jed ordered his father’s death, but Jedikiah decides it’s time to tell him the truth. Roger declared war on the Founder, and Jedikiah tried to warn him off. He never wanted to kill Roger. He convinces Stephen to come back to work and promises that he will protect his family and friends from the Founder.

Next, we see the murder of a man named Alexi, possibly killed by a breakout. Stephen tries to tell Cara off for throwing John out of the gang and goes to find John. He brings John home to sleep at his place, against his mom’s better judgement. She still thinks they should be running. Ultra and Stephen go to track down Alexi’s killer. Cara doesn’t know who the killer is either, but thinks he might be another person from the Annex project. Stephen checks with John, who says it’s possible that somebody did survive the Annex project, with a lethal gene. Hilary and Stephen track the killer by his teleporting trace to a bar owned by a man Alexi was going to be testifying against in a mob trial. Cara and Russell are there also: they are all after the same guy. Russell fights the killer and manages to grab a briefcase of his filled with money, but he gets away. John is on a proper suck up tip, cooking everyone dinner and doing the dishes. He gets to talking to Marla over roast beef and he tells her exactly what Ultra does, they hunt tomorrow people. Stephen keeps them all alive by being a double agent. John tells her that Stephen is a hero, and the tomorrow people all need him just as much as his real family does.

Hilary questions the bar owner, who gives her a phone number. Stephen is despatched to bring the killer in by setting him up to carry out a fake hit. He meets the guy, and takes him down with the help of Hilary. He tells Cara but … she has been doing some telepathic fishing and a guy who looks exactly like the hit man has just walked onto her subway car. Are there TWO breakouts? Twins! Cara and Russell apprehend the other guy. They figure out that the guy that Ultra has is a human, but the other one is a TP; together they are a deadly combo. Jed gets to work trying to convince human guy (Nathan) to betray TP guy (Cyrus). He says he can transplant all of Cyrus’ powers to Nathan. Cara is pretty annoyed when she reads Stephen’s mind and finds out that this is Jed’s plan. John tells Stephen that this is no bluff on Jed’s part. He means to do it, and it will be torture for Cyrus. Nathan calls to Cyrus telepathically to get him back and Cyrus decides to turn himself in. However, when they get together it turns out it was just a ploy for the two of them to get away. Cyrus escapes but Nathan gets shot dead in the cross fire.

This gets Stephen to thinking … what if Jedikiah tried to study Roger to see how he was paranormal? Jedikiah ridicules this idea, but the episode ends with him going to a secret room in his lab and talking to Roger’s body. Stephen was right! Jed has Roger and is keeping him cryogenically frozen until he can learn how to steal his powers. How much longer can Jed go without Stephen catching up to him? Tune in next week to find out!
