Every week, we post three of our favorite new music videos to hit the web so that you can get current with your music whilst enjoying a feast for your ears and eyes. The style and tone may differ somewhat from week to week or video to video, and between young musicians and old, but the awesomeness will remain consistent. Feel free to do a little shimmy if you feel it’s appropriate … Enjoy!
Childish Gambino “Telegraph Ave” (“Oakland” by Lloyd)
Childish Gambino (or Donald Glover to any Community viewers) has brought out a surprising track from his album Because the Internet, released late last year. “Telegraph Ave” has a chilled out hip hop beat with an otherworldly melody, and he does a fine line in fast rapping. The video is also more than a little … surprising; it starts out as what seems to be a pretty standard ‘guy and girl on a date’, but ends on a much darker note. We won’t give it away here, but check it out below and let us know what you think!
5 Seconds of Summer “Good Girls”
Cheeky chappies 5 Seconds of Summer are back with another dose of playful rock ‘n’ roll; the general theme seems to be that all girls have the potential to be naughty sometimes, a sentiment that most of us can agree with. The video is a ton of fun; it features the boys rocking out pretty hard outside a reform school for girls where all the students have enforced lessons in how to hold a teacup etc. Suffice to say, the bad girl side to our female protagonists win out, and before you know it there’s a school revolt happening. We love it, and we think you will too:
Broken Bells “After the Disco”
Our favorite indie rockers are back with another toe tapper following their smash hit “Holding on For Life”. It’s got just a hint of synth about it, and the video also has a pleasingly retro aesthetic. It features frontman James Mercer walking through a disco where he has the power to freeze the revelers in time … he walks straight out of the party and into somebody’s living room, where things get even weirder. What we will say is that the carousel effect will make you feel sick after about thirty seconds, although it’s a cool concept. Check it out below … you’ll see what we mean.Enjoy this piece?
