top-ten

This is what we’re most looking forward to across the board this coming week. There’s a lot so get ready to get rocked.

Top Ten Thing We're Excited for This Week chart

1. Coldplay – Ghost Stories

While there has been a lot of personal drama surrounding some of the members of Coldplay of late, we’d never let it cloud our judgment with regards to their music! They killed it with soundtrack contributions lately, including on the Hunger Games soundtrack, and their newest album, Ghost Stories, finally drops in full. We can’t wait to hear more of our favorite melodic stylings on what’s sure to be the hit album of the summer.

2.   While We Run by Karen Healey

Series: When We Wake #2 | Release Date: 27 May 2014

When We Wake, one of our favorite YA books of last year, is finally back with the second book in the series, told from the male protagonist’s point of view this time around. The series combines everything we love about sci-fi, survival, socio-political and romantic issues…in a fresh and exciting way. The vague description is intentional as the slightest plot revelation is a major spoiler alert. Be sure not to miss this series!

3. Malificent

We’ve talked a lot about our love of fairytales and Angelina Jolie, but Maleficent is taking it to the next level. The movie, out 5/30, goes behind the tale to tell the untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain, Maleficent, from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. The all star cast includes Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copely and appearances from Jolie’s own children, which may be the emergence of a new generation of movie stars.

4. Divided by Elsie Chapman

Series: Dualed #2 | Release Date: 27 May 2014

Described as the kind of book “Katniss Everdeen and Jason Bourne would devour” the second book of a new series by Elsie Chapman comes out 5/27. While the post-apocalyptic market could be considered saturated, West Grayer is a captivating enough character to really stand out from the pack.

5. Behind the Lights – Phillip Phillips

Wildly attractive, humble and talented to boot? We’ve been rooting for Phillip Phllips since his breakout season on AI. His newest studio album, the full length endeavor Behind The Lights, hits this week and it’s chock full of brilliant tracks that surpass Home far and away. His growth as an artist is tangible and exciting to experience.

6. Surrounded By Sharks by Michael Northrop

Release Date: 27 May 2014

This book is a departure from the ever-popular YA fare that involves survival games structured as games. Don’t get it twisted, this is definitely a survival game but of a more primitive kind. Davey finds himself out at sea…and grappling with one of the greatest terrors known to man, the shark. Fans of Jaws will love this new book from strong talent Michael Northrop.

7. A Million Ways to Die In The West

Seth MacFarlane’s trademark comedy is taking a different direction in this edgy western that follows a cowardly farmer who can’t stick up for himself when his girlfriend leaves him for another man. There are more stars in this than one can count, including Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson and Sarah Silverman to name a few. Bring on the laughs and the cowboy boots.

8. We Are The Best!

We love a good underdog story, especially ones that involve misfits, outsiders and loners. The foreign film We Are The Best! has elements of all. The story revolves around three girls in 1980s Stockholm who decide to form a punk band — despite not having any instruments and being told by everyone that punk is dead. The best part? It’s an adaptation of a graphic novel. Get ready to have your mind blown.

9. America’s Got Talent

Summer is the season of Variety shows and one of our favorites is back to help kick it off. America’s Got Talent returns for a new season 5/28. One of the reasons we love this show is that it really goes outside the box to redefine what Talent is. We’re looking forward to seeing what the masses bring this summer!

10. So You Think You Can Dance

Another one of our favorite variety shows is finally back and we’ve heard rumors that Justin Bieber is to guest star this season. Regardless of whether or not the rumor comes true, we’re looking forward to seeing some of the best moves around starting 5/29.
