It would seem that casting news for Young Adult TV shows revolves around just a few hot and very in-demand names, and what a busy bunch they are! But because things change in showbiz faster than it takes Disney to fast-track something into production, the names on that list are changing all the time. So to that end, we here at YA Mag will undertake the hefty task of keeping you up to date on who’s playing what, who’s hot, and who’s not. The roles and stars in everyone can’t stop talking about are all here…
MTV
Marshall Allman is leading the cast of Ken Jeong Made Me Do It, a comedy about everyman Andy (Allman), who, after catching his girlfriend cheating, accidentally rear-ends Ken Jeong’s car. Jeong will be playing himself.
Brian Jordan Alvarez, Ben Bledsoe, and Derek Goh have all joined the cast of Self Promotion, a dark comedy pilot following an overworked assistant who finds out that her dragon lady boss is missing and she’s the prime suspect. Alvarez, will play Wyatt, a co-worker, Bledsoe has been cast as Josh, a political advisor, and Goh will portray Andrew, a slacker intern.
IN DEVELOPMENT
The CW is uber busy with lots of development news:
Wilson Bethel of Hart of Dixie fame is also a writer, and has signed a on to write a drama for the network. The star has previously written the series Stupid Hype and L.A. Rangers.
In development as well is The Phoenix Project, a vigilante drama about three anarchist friends who take an original and dangerous approach to saving society from itself.
In movie-to-TV news, the magician drama The Illusionist is getting small screen treatment, based on the 2006 film starring Edward Norton. The series will focus on the magic of course, as well as crime drama elements.
Get ready for Cheerleader Death Squad, an action-adventure mystery-drama series about a fallen government agent-turned-teacher at a high end prep school who trains a group of students to become stealthy agents of international espionage.
