In a show about a burgeoning serial killer, a song or two about “killing” may pop up. What makes thing song special is that it captures the teen angst that the characters go through – particularly Norma and Emma. This song is the perfect cue for them to walk into the teen dance to – it feels retro and strangely modern at the same time.
“A Showman’s Life” – Chris Carmack as Will Lexington on Nashville “A Picture From Life’s Other Side”
Will has quickly become one of the more interesting characters in the second half of the season on Nashville. He’s enigmatic and his motives are unclear. He’s sensitive, yet a rough and tough cowboy through and through. He’s cutthroat, but he’s also oddly protective of Scarlett. He’s charming to say the least. And he’s a showman – a theme the show heavily relies on. He cuts to the heart of the matter in this performance of his demo “A Showman’s Life.”
“Who You Are” – Jessie J seen on Haley Erbert’s audition for So You Think You Can Dance Season 10
So You Think You Can Dance is one of the most Award-decorated shows that has ever been on TV. Emmy’s too numerous to count have resulted from 10 seasons of combinations of beautiful songs with stunning choreography. Haley Erbert’s audition for the latest season of the show is no exception. Her beautiful modern lyrical set against Jessie J’s “Who You Are” is chill inducing, reminds why the song was such a hit when it first came out, and DEFINITELY worth another watch/listen.
“Pretender” – Katharine McPhee and Smash cast on Smash “The Transfer”
SMASH sometimes gets a little insider-baseball when it comes to the songs they pick – they’re so showtunes-y that only diehard Broadway fans appreciate them. The sweet spot of the show comes with the songs have real pop-crossover appeal. “Pretender” is a tune that wouldn’t be so out of place on the summer charts…or on Katharine McPhee’s next record.
