Flume (feat Chet Faker) – Left Alone Degrassi S13E27

This song is playing as Dallas and Connor get pulled over, Dallas blows up at the police officer saying that they were only pulled over because they are young and black, and then they are ordered out of the car.  The title of the song seems pretty apt and fits in with the racial themes of the episode in general.  It’s a great tune with shades of Massive Attack.  Flume is a twenty two year old Ozzie DJ and producer.  His self titled album dropped last year and if you’re a fan of electronica, you’ll love it.

Paparazzi – Lady Gaga – Pretty Little Liars S4E24

This pop banger is playing during the moment that Allison meets Ezra in flashback in a pub by Hollis College, where they start a conversation over a book.  We don’t need to tell you much about Lady Gaga at this point; the twenty eight year old New York city native made news this week for performing at a New York show in her underwear and fishnets although by her standards we’d say this is pretty tame.  She’s performing in a nationwide tour right now so chances are you can catch her at some point in the next few months in a town near YOU!

Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know? – Vampire Diaries season 5 Episode 17

Damon and Elena are fighting (again); they are at school and he pushes her up against the lockers.  In the background, the Arctic Monkeys are crooning about an unhealthy love affair. This song has a fantastic heavy guitar riff, and as ever lead singer Alex Turner spits out some heartfelt, pitch perfect lyrics, probably between lungfuls of cigarette smoke.  This Sheffield, England based band has had the market cornered in kitchen-sink cool for years now, and this tune is no exception.

Victory – Kickers – Star-Crossed S1E7

This song is playing in the background as Emery and Julia talk about Emery’s love triangle with Roman and Grayson.  Victory is a frenetic indie pop presence based in Los Angeles, and his album, Victory Is Music, came out last year. You can check out the official video to Kickers above; for one man, Victory sure puts on an entertaining spectacle!

Alissa Bengston – Lightning Crashes

At the very end of the very last episode of the season, this song plays as a shot rings out after Kyle had a gun pointed at Charlie, who had, frankly, been acting out of control.  We don’t know if he actually shot, but a beautiful cover by Alissa Bengston of Lightning Crashes (originally by Live) plays out.  The cover is so fresh that it doesn’t exist in single format yet, but we’re assured that this will soon change.  In the meantime, have a peek at the original:
