Here are the TV Tunes that have got YA Magazine amped up this week … whether you’re a young musician or just music lover, we think you’ll enjoy these too!
Salt Cathedral “Tease”
Awkward Season 4 Episode 13
This perfectly modulated piece of timidly dreamy dance music by Salt Cathedral plays during the scene when Jenna’s mother quizzes Jenna as she prepares dinner about her New Years plans with Matty. We love this brand new Brooklyn based, Colombian born, outfit who got their name from an obscure church in Cundinamarca, Colombia. We hope they’ll be plaguing our dreams with their otherworldly sounds for years to come.
Amalie Bruun “Crush”
Awkward Season 4 Episode 13
Summer’s over, but not if you’re listening to this 60’s inspired trip hop rock n roll mash up by Amalie Bruun which plays whilst Tamara, Jenna and the gang talk about their New Years’ resolutions. Amalie Bruun is a Danish singer/songwriter, and self professed black metal lover who has also released several singles under the moniker of Myrkur (“darkness” in Icelandic). She’s extremely talented and also happens to have modeled for a Chanel campaign shot by none other than Martin Scorsese. In short, she’s kind of a big deal. Check out the song below and let us know if you agree:
Super Wild Horses “Mess Around”
Red Band Society, Season 1 Episode 3
Spunky female led band Super Wild Horses plays as nurse Jackson rushes towards Kara’s room only to find her, well … messing around. Super Wild Horses were formed in Melbourne in 2008, and admit that finesse isn’t their strong suit, but nevertheless have made a name for themselves with their raw live performances. They have released two albums, Fifteen in 2010 and Crosswords in 2013. Check out their song below:
Cults “You Know What I Mean”
Red Band Society, Season 1 Episode 3
This melancholy track by Cults plays as Leo and Emma share a moment behind Dr. Andrews’ back. We love Cults, and we love them even more because they are signed to Lily Allen’s record label In the Name Of. Check out their 2013 album Static.
