TV Tunes

Here are the TV Tunes that have got YA Magazine amped up this week … whether you’re a young musician or just a music lover, we think you’ll enjoy these too!

Carousel “Not Enough” // Awkward, season 4 Episode 14

This uplifting track from indie rockers Carousel plays in the background as Jenna strolls the hallways of school, happy to have survived her final exams. Carousel is a two piece band formed in Cleveland in 2011 and now based out of LA. We love their muted indie electronica mash up; you have probably heard their glorious track “Let’s Go Home” from earlier this year, but we urge you to check out their Palms EP. In the meantime, enjoy “Not Enough” below:

Antennas Up “Pretenders” // Awkward, season 4 Episode 14

This song plays in the background as Matty and friends watch Gabby playing tennis and talk about how into her he is. We love the cheerful sound of this track, and the lyrics reflect how unrealistic Matty’s chances with Gabby currently are. Antennas Up are fresh from Kansas City, Missouri, and sound a little like a more jolly version of Arcade Fire. They also have an indie documentary called Corporate FM about them. How neat is that! They’ve released two albums, and have also had tracks featured on Underemployed and Gossip Girl.

Classixx “All You’re Waiting For” // Faking It, Season 2 Episode 3

This funky number is playing Karma tries to get a little too involved with Amy’s date. The lyrics are perfect for the situation. We love LA based duo Classixx, and have done ever since they dropped their debut single “I’ll Get You” on uber cool French label Kitsune in 2009, and they’ve remixed everyone from Phoenix to Mayer Hawthorne. This track is pulled from their 2013 album Hanging Gardens. Check it out below:

Mood Rings “The Line” // Faking It, Season 2 Episode 3

Amy and her love interest lock eyes over flan in the cafeteria as this song by Mood Ring plays in the background. This song has a real dreamy quality to it which makes it great for a fantasy love scene. Mood Rings are from Atlanta, and came out in 2011 with the critically acclaimed EP Sweater Weather Forever. This track is pulled off their debut album VPI Harmony, which was released in 2013. Check it out below!

Ingrid Michaelson “Girls Chase Boys” // The Flash, Season 1 Episode 1

This is the song playing as Barry walks into the café for the first time since waking from his coma, and spots Iris working there. Ingrid Michaelson has been on the scene for a while, and we think is easily as talented as the likes of Regina Spektor with her soaring vocals and piano heavy melodies. Ingrid has already released a whopping six studio albums, and Girls Chase Boys comes from number six. It charted at number fifty two in the Billboard chart earlier this year. Check it out below:
