TV Tunes – The Veronica Mars Edition!
Pick Up the Phone – The Notwist
This track by German band Notwist is featured in season one of the show when Veronica is searching for a bug in her room. The Notwist have been around for a while, and used to be primarily a rock act but have increasingly experimented with electronic sounds and we expect more of the same from their new album Close to the Glass, slated for release this month.
We Used to be Friends – The Dandy Warhols
This is the theme song for all 3 seasons of the show. The Dandy Warhols were formed in 1994 in the spiritual home of all hipsters: Portland, Oregon. They’ve been our favorite perennial indie band for years and we hope they are still strutting their stuff when they’re seventy like the Rolling Stones!
“I Know I Know I Know” – Tegan and Sara
Canadian duo Tegan and Sara are multi-hyphenate, multi-talented sisters who have been making sweet acoustic jams together for almost fifteen years. This track is perfect for Logan and Hannah’s gettin’ it on at a hotel.
“Fidelity” by Regina Spektor
Who doesn’t love the dulcet tones of Regina Spektor? This Russian American New York resident recorded a jaunty piano and vocal track for “Fidelity” in 2006, which helped bring her album Begin to Hope to number 20 on the Billboard chart and brought her the first taste of stardom. The producers of Veronica Mars are obviously just as big fans as we are.
“Edge of the Ocean” – Ivy
This song was used in the episode “Meet John Smith” to underscore a distraught Veronica driving the injured Duncan to the hospital. Ivy is a three piece band that resides in New York, and they’ve also had their tracks featured on TV shows Felicity and Roswell.
“Right Here Right Now” by Fatboy Slim
This pumped up jam from the Brighton, UK-based purveyor of popular house music has just the right sense of urgency for the scene when Veronica runs from the Hearst Rapist in season 3.
“Just Another” by Pete Yorn
This track is played during a flashback to Veronica’s birthday party thrown by her mom, following which she takes Backup to the beach to play and sees Wallace there flying his plane. Poor old Pete Yorn, he’s always playing the guitar and mooning after some girl in his music, most notably the album of duets he recorded with film starlett Scarlett Johansson.
“Word Up” by Korn
This catchy track is playing in the episode where Weevil and gang crash the beach party. This 2004 rendition is a cover version of an original song by 80‘s band Cameo, and from watching both videos we can’t decide which style choices are more, erm, ‘unusual’.
