It’s fall, so that means that there are a lot of new TV shows hitting the airwaves, and many favorites returning for brand new seasons. MTV’s renaissance continues this fall with the new series Happyland, a comedy/drama series that takes place at a fairy tale themed amusement park. Let’s take a look what’s new on MTV this fall, as well as how our summer MTV shows wrapped up.
Teen Wolf
This past season of Teen Wolf revolved mostly around the “deadpool,” a list of Beacon Hills residents with supernatural powers, along with a dollar amount to be paid upon their successful assassination by an anonymous “benefactor.” We met a few new characters, such as Liam (Dylan Sprayberry), Scott’s (Tyler Posey) first self-made “beta,” Mason (Khylin Rhambo), Liam’s gay bff, and we got a little bit closer to discovering what powers Deputy Jordan Parrish (Ryan Kelley) might possess. We think it’s pretty obvious that Jordan and Lydia (Holland Roden) are headed for romantic territory, but we’re hoping that she’ll eventually end up with Stiles (Dylan O’Brien). Teen Wolf returns in 2015.
Finding Carter
Finding Carter was a surprise hit this past summer, with a story reminiscent of 1990 young adult novel The Face on the Milk Carton, by Caroline B. Cooney. After a season of gut-wrenching family drama, Finding Carter wrapped up its first season with one of the most dramatic moments so far: Lori (Milena Govich), in a crazy, last ditch attempt to win the battle against Carter’s (Kathryn Prescott) biological family, drugs and kidnaps Carter (again). Finding Carter has been renewed for a second season (thank the Lord!), but we’ll have to wait until then to see what happens when Carter comes to and realizes what her conniving biological mother has done. Also, what’s the deal with David (Alexis Denisof) and Lori? It seems like there may have been something going on there before Carter was originally kidnapped. Finding Carter returns in 2015.
Awkward and Faking It
We’re super psyched for the return of Awkward! Last season, Eva’s (Elizabeth Whitson) revelation threw a monkey wrench in Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Sadie’s (Molly Tarlov) plan to out Eva as a crazy, obsessed stalker to Matty (Beau Mirchoff), who plans to step up and do the right thing for Eva and their (alleged). It seems pretty clear that Eva is indeed pregnant, but there’s no telling who the father is. We hope Awkward will wrap up this soapy chapter soon, and get back to the lighter, more off-beat sitcom we’ve come to love.
Faking It is returning for a second season after a very brief hiatus (season 1 just wrapped up this past June). After Amy (Rita Volk) and Karma (Katie Stevens) made a mess of pretty much their entire lives (but mostly their friendship), the season ended on a particularly sour note, with no one getting what they want and everyone either pissed off or devastated. We hope that season 2 will perk up quickly, and hopefully will introduce some new characters to disrupt the status quo.
Awkward and Faking It return Tuesday, September 23 at 10:00 and 10:30 on MTV.
Happyland
Happyland is the newest member of the MTV family. The series takes place in a fairy tale themed amusement park, starring Bianca Santos (The Fosters, Ouija) as Lucy, a young woman who has had the park’s fairy tale, dreams-can-come-true philosophy shoved down her throat one too many times. Just as she is about to break away from the world she loathes, the arrival of a hot new face, Ian, who happens to be the son of the park’s new CEO, makes her reconsider. Shane Harper stars as Ian, who we’ve come to love on Awkward and Disney’s Good Luck Charlie. Happyland sounds like a nice little love story, doesn’t it? Oh wait, there’s the whole thing about how Ian might be Lucy’s BROTHER. Yes. Her brother. We can’t wait to see how this whole situation unfolds. The cast also includes Cameron Moulene (Raising Hope), Ryan Rottman (Gigantic, The Lying Game), and new faces Chris Sheffield and Katharine McNamara.
Happland premieres Tuesday, September 30 at 11:00 on MTV.
