Here at YA Magazine, we’re casting talking about our vote and giving our prediction on the categories that are still up for voting!
TEEN BOOK OF THE YEAR 2014 FINALISTS
-
Allegiant by Veronica Roth (Katherine Tegen/HarperCollins)
-
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell (St. Martin’s Press)
-
Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices) by Cassandra Clare (Margaret K. McElderry/S&S)
-
Smoke by Ellen Hopkins (Margaret K. McElderry/S&S)
-
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey (Putnam)
OUR HEART SAYS…
While we would throw our vote of Best Teen Book of the Year behind Rainbow Rowell’s “Eleanor & Park”, as of May 7th “Allegiant” is in the lead with 50% of the votes and “The 5th Wave” at 29%. It’ll be difficult for any of the other three to close that distances.
BUT WE PREDICT…
“Allegiant” by a landslide!
AUTHOR OF THE YEAR 2014 FINALISTS
-
Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck (Amulet)
-
Rick Riordan, The House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus, Book 4) (Disney/Hyperion)
-
Veronica Roth, Allegiant (Katherine Tegen/HarperCollins)
-
Rush Limbaugh, Rush Revere and The Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans (Threshold/S&S)
-
Rachel Renee Russell, Dork Diaries 6: Tales from a Not-So-Happy Heartbreaker(Aladdin/S&S)
OUR HEART SAYS…
Rick Riordan or Veronica Roth seem like the obvious choices for Best Author of the Year for us, what with YA being our focus. But it seems that Rush Limbaugh stands at 56% as of May 7th now while his nearest competition is only boasting 19%!
BUT WE PREDICT…
Despite the controversy over his place as a finalist Rush Limbaugh’s taking this one home!
ILLUSTRATOR OF THE YEAR 2014 FINALISTS
-
Oliver Jeffers, The Day The Crayons Quit (Philomel)
-
Victoria Kann, Emeraldalicious (HarperCollins)
-
James Dean, Pete the Cat: The Wheels on the Bus (HarperCollins)
-
Anna Dewdney, Llama Llama and the Bully Goat (Viking)
-
Grace Lee, Sofia the First: The Floating Palace (Disney Press)
OUR HEART SAYS…
The adorable “Pinkalicious” was probably in all our elementary school age siblings’ book shelves, and no doubt it’s the same with “Emeraldalicious”. Anything “Sofia the First” also seems like a no-brainer. But, turns out “The Day the Crayons Quit” illustrator Oliver Jeffers is rocking it at 57% as of May 7th, while the Disney Princess is in second far behind with 23%.
BUT WE PREDICT…
Oliver Jeffers leaves the competition in the dust… or crayon shavings as it were.
