Ya Casting Call

It would seem that casting news for Young Adult Hollywood revolves around just a few hot and very in-demand names, and what a busy bunch they are! But because things change in showbiz faster than you can say ‘Guess who will be in Game Of Thrones this season?!‘, the names on that list are changing all the time. So to that end, we here at YA Mag will undertake the hefty task of keeping you up to date each month on who’s playing what, who’s not, and who should. The roles and stars everyone can’t stop talking about are all here…

Let’s kick this roundup off with a much-needed update to Divergent casting news. It seems that just about everyone is flocking to this highly anticipated project, what with Kate Winslet being secured as the villainous know-it-all Jeanine Matthews. And the most notable development is the casting of Theo James as Tobias/Four, a total dark horse who wasn’t even in the running last month when we did our poll. Additional casting developments include Zoe Kravitz, daughter of Lenny, and Angel in X-Men: First Class. Suffice it to say, the Divergent film looks incredible and we’re excited to hear about the production itself when it’s set to begin filming this month!

Speaking of X-Men: in case you weren’t aware, Hugh Jackman is set to don his adamantium claws yet again as Wolverine in the aptly titled The Wolverine this August, a follow-up to the very lackluster X-Men Origins: Wolverine of 2009. But the hottest new installment in the mega-franchise is X-Men: Days of Future Past, a time-travel sequel set for 2014, which will not only feature Jennifer Lawrence as the young Mystique along with her co-stars from First Class, but also reunite the older cast of the original X-Men, namely Jackman along with cohorts Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore et al. Another notable mention is the new film’s director, Bryan Singer, auteur behind the first (and arguably the best) two films in the franchise.

Another much-lauded YA title soon to get the film treatment—for the second time!—is Kiera Cass’s The Selection, which will get a second pilot this year on the CW. Taking place 300 years in the future, the story focuses on a young girl recruited to take part in a competition between 25 rivals to determine who will win the hand of the prince, and ultimately the throne. Israeli beauty Yael Grobglas, from 2010’s horror standout Kalevet (Rabies), plays the young heroine known as America Singer, and Anthony Head, aka Giles from the original Buffy series, will play King Clarkson.
