It would seem that movie casting news for Young Adult Hollywood revolves around just a few hot and very in-demand names, and what a busy bunch they are! But because things change in showbiz faster than it takes them to fast track another young adult series into production, the names on that list are changing all the time. So to that end, we here at YA Mag will undertake the hefty task of keeping you up to date on who’s playing what, who’s hot, and who’s not. The roles and stars everyone can’t stop talking about are all here…
High school comedy Homemade Stu may have found its leads. Wimpy Kid Devon Bostick (also of The 100) and 22 Jump Street’s Johnny Pemberton are being considered for the film, about two high school boys who try to create a hot robotic girl a la Weird Science, but instead somehow construct a robotic boy instead.
Speaking of 22 Jump Street, yet another sequel is underway: 23 Jump Street. We assume this is only going to happen if Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum agree to go for another ride!
ALSO speaking of Jump Street, Richard Linklater (director of Boyhood) has tapped 22’s Wyatt Russell for his next movie, That’s What I’m Talking About, which is being touted as an unofficial fratty follow-up to the director’s much-loved stoner classic, Dazed And Confused. Joining Wyatt are Blake Jenner (Glee) and Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf)! The three boys have all been cast as baseball players in the movie.
Nightmare on Elm Street’s and Veronica Mars’ Kyle Gallner will be a part of The Finest Hours, about a true Coast Guard rescue of two oil tanker crews involved in a massive collision in 1952.
James Franco is moving ahead with The Disaster Artist, co-starring his brother Dave Franco. Written by the duo who brought us (500) Days of Summer and The Fault in Our Stars—Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber—the movie will go behind the scenes on the worst (and arguably most celebrated) film ever made, The Room.
Friday Night Lights’ Aimee Teegarden has been tapped for dance film Heart Beats 3D, following an American hip-hop artist who travels to India and falls in love with a man…as well as a new style of dance.
Divergent’s Theo James is set to take the reigns from Kate Beckinsale for Underworld 5. He will reprise his role as vampire David from Underworld: Awakening.
