It would seem that movie casting news for Young Adult Hollywood revolves around just a few hot and very in-demand names, and what a busy bunch they are! But because things change in showbiz faster than it takes them to fast track another young adult series into production, the names on that list are changing all the time. So to that end, we here at YA Mag will undertake the hefty task of keeping you up to date on who’s playing what, who’s hot, and who’s not. The roles and stars everyone can’t stop talking about are all here…
The movie world is dancing a jig this week with some HUGE announcements from the DC camp, by way of Warner Bros, in their grand ploy to become as relevant as Marvel. A whole slew of big budget superhero films are on the horizon, with next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice only the beginning. WB will release two movies in 2018, The Flash starring Wallflower Ezra Miller (no doubt put on the fast track due to the Arrow spinoff’s success on TV) and Aquaman starring GOT’s Jason Momoa (we are very excited for our first big screen aquatic superhero!).
Also in from DC is the selection of underestimated vixen Jena Malone of The Ruins and Sucker Punch, who is a late addition to the cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. No official word has been released as to who Jena will portray, but rumor has it she will be updating Robin in female form. We can’t wait!
And it keeps coming. The studio is considering Hollywood heavyweights Will Smith, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie for The Suicide Squad, another DC-comics-based story about a band of supervillains who are given one last shot at redemption by taking on missions that will most likely get them killed. The film is slated for release in 2016.
Young adult actress Jaz Sinclair has landed the role of Angela in the next John Green adaptation, Paper Towns. Jaz joins Nat Wolff and Cara Delevingne as leads Quentin and Margo, as well as Austin Abrams, Halston Sage, and Justice Smith.
In remake news, relative newcomers Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence will appear in Disney’s reboot of the1977 film Pete’s Dragon, about a boy named Pete (Oakes) who escapes his abusive and neglectful foster family and befriends a dragon named Elliot in a small fishing village in Maine. Robert Redford is in talks to sign on as well.
