Russell Middlebrook is back! We previously had the pleasure of interviewing YA author Brent Hartinger about the film adaptation of his landmark novel Geography Club, which launched a series that took readers on gay teen Russell’s journey through high school. Now, Russell is joining a very select group of fictional characters to jump genres, in Hartinger’s new ‘New Adult’ book The Thing I Didn’t Know I Didn’t Know.
As he mentioned in our interview way back when in 2013, Brent wanted to continue telling Russell’s story, but about 5 years down the line, in college. The Thing I Didn’t Know I Didn’t Know is the fruit of his efforts, taking place in Russell’s twenty-third year, in Seattle. Taking place in the summer of 2014, the novel focuses on several issues that are more aligned with the life and times of a twenty-something living in a progressive, post-2008 American city.
The book is also the start of a new series, Russel Middlebrook: the Futon Years. Great title. We can’t wait to read the first installment! The Thing I Didn’t Know I Didn’t Know will be in bookstores and available for download on December 15th.
