In the interview when asked what it is like to play a character like Mark, Ames says “I really enjoy playing Mark, not only for who he is but his family, and his relationship with his family. But I think it’s really cool that there is someone on T.V. like Mark for kids to relate to. I think it’s good to show all sorts of people on T.V. because T.V. should reflect real life. In real life everyone is different. I love playing Mark because he is an interesting person but also a constantly evolving person like everyone is, and I like to see him grow throughout the seasons. Ames also states that “there is never a dull moment for the Conners and something is always happening. For Mark particularly this season we are getting to see him grow up more and deal with the problems with being at a new school and all of the problems that a teenager would”.
