YEM Exclusive Interview | with Tyler Lawrence Gray from Wolf Pack

Fans of the supernatural show Wolf Pack, we have some exciting news to announce! We have an exclusive interview with Tyler Lawrence Gray, who portrays Harlan Briggs in the show! We are ecstatic to talk to Tyler about his role as Harlan, his thoughts and experience with the film and cast members, and more. For those worried about spoilers, this article will be as spoiler-free as possible for those not far into the show. And now, onto the interview and its refresher.

For those who haven’t watched the show, Wolf Pack recently released on January 26th on Paramount+ this year. The series tells the story of a California wildfire that awoke a frightening, supernatural creature. When two teenagers discover that they’ve become werewolves after getting severely injured by one, the two must band together with another duo of teenagers who went through a similar wildfire sixteen years ago. The show was created by Jeff Davis, whom you’ll recognize as the creator of Teen Wolf.

The show is based on a book series written by Edo van Belkom titled Wolf Pack, but the contents of the book are a bit different from the series. The book tells the story of a litter of wolf cubs who were found by a park ranger and his wife. Upon realizing that the cubs can shapeshift into humans, the two decided to take care of them and help them fit into the human world. However, when a member of the pack gets kidnapped, the three must band together and summon as much strength, courage, and wit to rescue her. Edo van Belkom himself has won awards for his writings, ranging from the Ontario Library Association award to the Stoker Short Fiction Award.

Here’s a small refresher for Tyler Lawrence Gray! For those who know of his history, you’ll recognize him from his time on TikTok. He was famous for releasing content that revolved around his lip-syncing and modeling and boosted over to more than 160k followers on the platform. His first ever role that appeared on-screen was on a short called KidCoin, where he portrayed Jake Logan which eventually lead to his role as Harlan in Wolf Pack.

We start the interview by asking Tyler about what it was like to work with the director of Teen Wolf: The Movie, Jeff Davis, who created the televised version of Wolf Pack. Tyler expresses that Jeff is a great guy and that he’s super genuine and humble. Tyler has been a fan of his for a while, and he remembers when he first met Jeff with the other castmates in a group workout. Tyler remembered feeling starstruck, but after working on set for months and messaging back and forth with him about the show and the characters, it almost felt like Jeff was a friend to Tyler. He mentions that Jeff would invite the others to watch some clips he wanted to show them, and Tyler expresses how everything was chill and down-to-earth everything was. When asked about the audition and when Tyler received the callback, he met Jeff on a Zoom call for it, and Tyler expressed how nervous he was when he realized that it was Jeff on the call.

We also ask Tyler what he remembered from his first moments in the show, what the audition process was like, and if Tyler was informed about the project. Tyler mentions that he didn’t know about the project, and explained how he had to sign an NDA just for the sides that were given to him. All he knew was Harlen’s description and when he ran with it, he mentions that looking back, he lamented that he could’ve played Harlen so much differently now that he shot an entire season as him. He did state that he had a good understanding of the show and took inspiration from previous Teen Wolf episodes, and tried to incorporate that same tone to Wolf Pack, as he didn’t know how similar Teen Wolf would be to Wolf PackTyler mentions that the audition process took at least a month of callbacks and meetings, and upon getting the callback, he immediately agreed. He admitted that it was tough, but it wasn’t as tough as he thought it would be, as he mainly had fun with it.
