YEM talks to rising music star Aria Wunderland

Aria Wunderland has always had a passion for music- she was even hand-picked to participate in producer Toby Gad’s songwriting camp and has written songs for JLo. Aria’s previous releases have gotten over 100K Spotify streams and have been featured on Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Oxygen’s Bad Girls Club. Recently, Aria released her newest song “Super Fly” featuring rapper Only 1 Theory. Young Entertainment Mag spoke with Aria about her newest song, the music industry, and what’s ahead for the rising star.

Young Entertainment Mag: How did you first get involved in music?
Aria Wunderland: We had a piano in our home growing up and I was always really drawn to it. I began playing it by ear and eventually took lessons. My love for music all started with classical composers but as I got older I started listening to pop, rock and hip hop. All of those elements began to influence my writing.

YEM: How would you describe your sound? Who are your music influences?
Aria: I would say it’s alternative pop with some hints of hip hop/trap. I was influenced by so many different bands and artists growing up: Radiohead, Coldplay, NAS, Eminem, No Doubt, Aliyah, and Britney Spears, just to name a few. I also continue to get inspired by all of the amazing new artists that are coming out like Sza, Khalid, H.E.R., Cardi B., Billy Eilish, etc. So many of them. Music is in such an amazing place right now.

YEM: You’ve attended the Billboard Music Awards and the AMAs. Tell us what that was like. What do you remember most about the award shows?
Aria: Yes those were both incredible experiences. I would say what impressed me the most both times was the good energy at these events. Everyone is so positive and supportive of each other even when they don’t win. They both really gave me a sense of community and a feeling of pride for being a musician. The Christina Aguilera Whitney Houston tribute at the AMA’s was definitely the most memorable!

YEM: Your newest song “Super Fly” just premiered on Revolt TV. What makes Revolt TV the perfect place to release the song?
Aria: Revolt felt like the perfect platform to premier Super Fly. It’s really innovative and I like that they’re not so focused on chart-driven pop. I’m a big fan of Revolt so I felt very honored to have them premier Super Fly.

YEM: With “Super Fly,” you teamed up with rapper Only 1 Theory. What was that collaboration like?
Aria: It was really incredible. She’s so talented! I wrote this song with an amazing producer/songwriter name Ikenna FuNken. I thought it was done until he gave Only1Theory the opportunity to write a verse to it. She really just took the song to another level!

YEM: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
Aria: I would love to collaborate with Pharrell. I think he’s really talented and knows how to interpret any genre!

YEM: Your songs have previously been featured on shows like Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Bad Girls Club. What’s it like to hear your song featured on hit reality shows?
Aria: It’s really cool actually. Usually my friends will tell me since I often miss it. So I’ll sometimes get a Snapchat or Instagram video of their television screen with my song snippet playing.

YEM: What’s ahead for you? Any new songs/albums you can tease for fans?

Aria: Yes I do have an EP I’m finishing up. I can’t yet say exactly when I’ll be releasing it but let’s just say it’ll be in 2018 🙂
