1. HSMTMTS
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series fourth and final season saw the East High drama club return to school to find out they would be putting on a stage adaptation of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Members of the original High School Musical including Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, and Monique Coleman appeared this season. The show’s final season reminds us why we fell in love with the characters and the premise in the first place.
2. Heartstopper
The Netflix feel good show Heartstopper returned for a second season this year. The coming-of-age drama series is based on the graphic novel of the same name created by Alice Oseman. The series tells the story of Charlie Spring as he navigates high school and young love with Nick Nelson. The second season explores more of their relationship in public and friendships among the rest of the characters. We fell in love again with the wholesome story, as the show was renewed for a season three.
3. The Summer I Turned Pretty
Based on the books by Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty follows a love triangle between a girl and two brothers focusing on themes of love, heartbreak, and the magic of summer. We fell in love with this series in the first season because of the cast and the storytelling and the romances and season two captured our hearts just as much.
4. Outer Banks
Based in a coastal town along the Outer Banks, there is a stark social divide between the Kooks and the Pogues. The Pogue’s ringleader John B enlists the help of his three best friends to join him on treasure hunting journeys. The show was renewed for a fourth season and YEM appreciates this show for the action, love triangles, and sunny ocean-side scenery.
5. Surviving Summer
Rebellious Brooklyn teen Summer Torres is sent to live with family friends in the tiny town of Shorehaven on the Great Ocean Road in Australia. Despite trying not to, Summer ends up falling in love with the town, its people, and surfing. The second season was released this year and we loved how relatable and likable the characters are, in addition to the beautiful setting in which the show was filmed.
