While these shows unfortunately came to an end this year, we had some bittersweet endings to storylines and some of our favorite characters. Here are the top 5 shows we loved that we had to say goodbye to in 2024:
1. Dead Boy Detectives
Based on the DC comic characters from The Sandman, Dead Boy Detectives follows Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine as they decide not to enter the afterlife and instead stay on Earth to investigate supernatural crimes. While the show was unfortunately canceled after one season, audiences praised it for the incredible performances and writing. With the show ending, we still wonder if Niko will come back to life somehow? And who was that sitting in the igloo?! We interviewed Yuyu Kitamura who plays Niko and it was obvious how much fun the cast had working together.

2. Prisma
In Prisma (Prism), a group of teenagers from Latina, including a pair of identical twins, Andrea and Marco, have very different approaches on life but are united in their search for their place in the world. The show dealt with many important topics of identity, gender fluidity, sexuality and relationships. We’re still holding our breath wondering if Marco is still alive. What do you think?
3. PLL: Pretty Little Liars: Summer School
A new generation of Pretty Little Liars took on the trials and tribulations of female friendship and the horrors of being a teenage girl. The series was the latest spin off of Sara Shepard’s 2000s young adult book which followed five teenage girls who come together after receiving cryptic messages from a person called “A”, who holds their mothers responsible for a catastrophic event in 1999. While the show was canceled after two seasons, it included a star studded cast of Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, and more as another generation of Liars picked up A’s curse. Had it continued, we would have loved to see if any original PLL actresses would have made a cameo!
4. Cobra Kai
The sixth and final season of Cobra Kai premiered this year, and picked up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, with the senseis and students deciding if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai, the world championship of Karate. We got to see these characters who we have followed for six years wrap up their stories in a bittersweet way. The show also laid a foundation for a possible spinoff at the end, so who knows what’s in store next!
5. That ‘90s Show
That ‘90s Show follows Leia Forman, the teenage daughter of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti, as she bonds with other teenagers during the summer of 1995 in Wisconsin while living with her grandparents, Kitty and Red Forman. The show takes place 15 years after the events of That ‘70s Show. While the show was canceled after a second season, it combined new characters and relationships and both humor and heart and we’ll miss the nostalgia, with a cast of newcomers and also That ‘70s Show actors reprising their roles.
