Throughout 2024, there were so many must read books throughout a range of genres. From fantasy to romance, to BookTok sensations, here were 5 stories we couldn’t put down:
1. Love & Lattes by Beth Reekles
Beth Reekles, the author of the bestselling phenomenon “The Kissing Booth,” is back with “Love and Lattes.” Annalise Sherwood has worked hard to get a place in a prestigious interview program. She figures one night letting loose won’t hurt her, especially when it ends with the best kiss of her life. But she soon discovers the mystery guy is none other than Lloyd, the company CEO’s son. As the summer and internship continue, Lloyd seems to find any excuse to annoy Annalise, but a late night of working brings them closer than ever, and she wonders if there is more to him than she originally thought.
2. The Glass Girl
From Kathleen Glasgow, “The Glass Girl” follows Bella, who is relied on for everything in her life. There’s only one thing that dulls that pressure, alcohol, but when a bad night on Thanksgiving has Bella end up in the hospital, it is time to face reality. This story is one filled with both heartbreak and hope and shows the importance of mental health and the truth of addiction and is an important and honest read for any young adult.
3. The Ballad of Darcy and Russell
In “The Ballad of Darcy and Russell,” Darcy believes in love at first sight but her life is anything but perfect. When heading home from a music festival, she is stranded at a Nevada bus station with a dead phone and no money. She’s convinced nothing good can come of the night but then she meets Russell. Over the course of the night, Darcy and Russell discover things they never imagined about each other and themselves, but is it possible to fall in love in less than one day? This roadtrip romcom is filled with friendships, familial chaos, and the story of a lifetime. We did a Q&A with author Morgan Matson to learn more about the inspiration behind the love story.
4. The Getaway List by Emma Lord
In “The Getaway List,” Riley moves to New York after her high school graduation, where her childhood best friend Tom lives, hoping to get in touch with her adventurous self. Tom and Riley are co-creators of The Getaway List, a list of all the adventures they’ve wanted to do since he moved away. When Riley arrives in the city, their reconnection is effortless except for one unexpected complication. But as she and Tom work through items on The Getaway List, she learns that the biggest adventure is not one you take, but one you feel in your heart.
We chatted with Emma Lord earlier this year to learn all about the inspiration behind the story and what would be on her getaway list.
5. Snowglobe
Snowglobe is a climate-controlled city where citizens can go to escape the bitter cold. But this “perfect” society is hiding dark and dangerous secrets within its frozen heart. The book, written by Soyoung Park, was originally written in Korean but was translated for the first time into English this year. Snowglobe is a solid dystopian story with very powerful characters.
