To celebrate the digital release of Regretting You, we are sharing an exclusive interview with Alison Williams, who stars as Morgan Grant, to learn all about her relationship with Mckenna Grace and her best audition tips for aspiring actors.

Regretting You is based on the 2019 book of the same name by Colleen Hoover and stars Allison Williams as Morgan Grant, a young mother who puts her ambitions on hold to raise her teenage daughter Clara. But when a family tragedy puts a strain on their relationship, they need to figure out how to navigate life together. Mckenna Grace stars as Clara, and the film also stars Mason Thames, Dave Franco, and Scott Eastwood.

You may already recognize the incredibly talented Alison Williams from previous roles including Rose in Get Out, Gemma in M3GAN and M3GAN 2.0 and as Marnie in the hit show Girls.

Alison and Mckenna developed an incredibly close relationship while working on Regretting You and Alison said it was super easy for the two of them to connect, as they easily fell into that mother/daughter bond relationship.

Alison: “[McKenna Grace] is very easy to love and get to know.”

Music plays a big role for Alison in prepping for characters and she even revealed she learned a lot from Mckenna as she would be listening to music right up until the camera started rolling. Alison said the film’s director Josh Boone also often played the soundtrack when the cast was together, as music is such a powerful tool in helping to set the tone on set.

Alison: “I always like to use music in my acting as a prep method.”

Alison shared some incredible audition tips for up-and-coming actors, including the importance of beginning your audition with a strong physical gesture. Even if you are not right for that specific part, it can play a big role in helping casting directors to remember you!

Alison: “If you start your tape with a physical gesture that might not be the same static frame that everyone else has, at least that’ll stand out.”
