Crew Girl follows 16-year-old Tegan as she escapes with her mother to a small town where she ends up as the only female rower of a dysfunctional all-boys team at an Elite Coast Prep School, with rivals, love triangles, and drama both in and out of the boat. Miku Martineau stars as Tegan and Thomas’s character Matt Hayden coaches the team.
“Miku is such a professional and always looking out for the rest of the cast.”
Thomas is most known for his starring role as Tyler Brooks in the Merry Liddle movie trilogy and he has also appeared in Scream 6, Once Upon a Time, The Flash, and The Good Doctor. Whether it’s one line in a show or a play, Thomas said that every single credit is part of your journey.
“Every credit that you get in your career all leads to something.”
From Miku to the supporting cast, Thomas said viewers will fall in love with everyone on screen, as the cast is so talented and fits perfectly into their roles, especially Miku as Thomas praised her professionalism at just 21 years old. Fans will also fall in love with the love triangle between Josh and Cam, played by Samuel Braun and Kyle Clark.
“You will definitely see the chemistry between Josh and Cam on screen.”
Thomas took a lot of inspiration from past iconic TV and film coaches, including Brad Pitt in Moneyball and from Friday Night Lights. Thomas said Coach Hayden is a great mentor, giving a lot of tough love to the rowers, but really is the heart and soul as he guides them through their struggles.
Most of the cast hadn’t done crew before and Thomas revealed the boys and later him were on the water everyday for 2 hours training leading up to filming. Talk about dedication!
“Learning a new sport was so fun.”
For anyone wondering about Crew Girl, Thomas says viewers will relate to the characters, and fall in love with the drama and friendships, and he was very proud to be a part of this project.
“It is such a well crafted cast.”
