We have already explained the origins of Cruel Summer in length in another interview. Here is a refresher for those who did not read it. Cruel Summer follows the story of two teenage girls whose fates intertwined with one another, Kate Wallis and Jeanette Turner. Each episode focuses on a single day within three years between 1993 – 1995. It would be that during those times, the audience will see the natural progression of Kate’s disappearance. They will also be witnessing how Jeanette Turner turned from the sweetest and socially awkward teenager to the most popular and eventually, the most detested individual in the world.
Set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, the second chapter follows the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship. Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twists and turns as it tracks the early friendship between Megan, Isabella and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.
The executive producers of Cruel Summer are Jessica Biel & Michelle Purple. They formed Iron Ocean Prouctions which is the production company behind the show.
