Something Real And Good For Alex Hannant

The young actress opens up about her debut role in the promising new title

Handpicked from the archives of a casting website, dreamy eyed up-and-comer Alex Hannant plays the lead, known only as ‘Her’, in the new film Something Real and Good. The film follows two wayward airline passengers who are thrown together; as the synopsis quaintly sums up, “When the plane is rerouted, they decide to make the best of it, and over the course of one night, realize that sometimes it takes a detour to make a connection.” Sounds like a fairytale, right?

But Hannant is adamant about the script’s sense of reality. What initially drew her in was how “I completely identified with the character. Completely. I was like, ‘That’s ME.’” And it goes even further. “It’s all very relatable,” she says of new writer Erin Carroll’s script and the young characters she created. “Everyone’s going through this point in their life, where they don’t really know what they’re doing…I’m still in it—I’m 24 and I’m like, ‘Who am I?’” Alex explains, candidly. “People will really understand what these characters are going through.”

The parallels between her and the character bordered on eerie, in fact: “I had to stop several times during the table read,” she recalls, since it was getting to be all too much. “I quote Clueless on a daily basis; that was in the movie!” Clearly, this casting was just plain meant to be.

And naturally, the fulltime student (Alex is a theater major graduating this spring) is completely thrilled. Acting has been in her blood from the beginning: as she reminisces, “I was rehearsing my own SNL skits at three years old, and you couldn’t understand a word I was saying.”

We wish this promising young talent all the luck in the world for continued success!
