A Rising Star

Young Entertainment got the chance to chat with Britt Flatmo about her music and what it means to share it with the world.

Young Entertainment: Where do you get your inspiration from?

Britt Flatmo: Inspiration comes from many different places. For me my life experiences really direct me in my inspiration. I am constantly listening to music as well. I grew up listening to the likes of Christina Aguilera and Beyonce. I draw from their strength as powerful women performers.

YE: What would you like the audience to take away from your music?

BF: I would like my audience to feel like they can relate to my music and to me as a person/artist. When your music/lyric/melody can make someone have an emotion, you know you have done your job.

YE: How would you best describe your music?

BF: I have recently released my first album. The album is a product of many years of work. I am really excited to have the opportunity to share it with the world. It is a mixture of dance, ballots and feel good music.

YE: How long have you be singing? When did you first get into music?

BF: My mom jokes that I have been singing since I was born. I got my first big gig when I was 5 years old in the play Oliver at The Driftwood Players in Seattle. After that it was full steam ahead. I have not looked back since.

YE: What has been your favorite part so far?

BF: I have many favorite moments. First of all I love to write and create music. There is like nothing else in the world. It allows me to express my thoughts and feelings in a way that could let people know that they are not alone. Secondly, I love to perform. Being on stage is like being at home…it just feels right.

YE: What was the hardest thing for you so far?

BF: The most challenging part so far I would have to say was the amount of time it took to release the album. I have been writing and working on it for many years. This album has been a labor of love and I am so proud of what it has turned out to be.

YE: We hear you are also a songwriter, did you write all of your songs off of your new album? If so, what inspired these songs?

BF: Yes, I wrote all 5 songs on my album. I started writing when I was 10 years old. I wanted this first album to feel raw/real and relatable. So the inspiration came from life experiences. My first single and music video ‘Come On Home’ is about by former boyfriend who is in the military. I hold this album very close to my heart.

YE: Did you collaborate with other artists for this album? If so, who?

BF: No, because this album was very personal to me and I wanted to keep it as raw and real as possible. I would love to collab on my next album. Who would you like to collaborate with in the future? That is a tough one because I have so many artists that I look up to. I would love to work with Justin Bieber, Tori Kelly and Troye Sivan.

YE: Can you tell us how you got the concept for your new music video for “Come On Home?”

BF: I have had the opportunity to work some awesome producers and directors from Vega Entertainment/ JG Entertainment during this journey. Since my first single “Come On Home” was written about my former boyfriend who is in the military it seemed like the best direction to incorporate our memories into the story line of the video. We were fortunate to have Cody Saintgnue from MTV’s Teen Wolf play my love interest in the video. It was amazing getting to work with him as an actor and friend.

YE: What can we see from you moving forward?

BF: The next step in this incredible journey is to release another music video and put the finishing touches on the U.S. tour. 2016 is shaping up to be a fantastic year. If there was one song that you could say was yours from the history of music, which would it be and why? My fave song in history is “Kissing A Fool” the Michael Buble cover. I love the way it sounds and the lyrics really speak to me.

YE: Which other artists would you compare yourself to?

BF: I try not to compare myself to anyone because we are all different. The vein that I tend to hangout in would be Birdy, Tori Kelly, and Ed Sheeran.

YE: Any other projects you wish to talk about?

BF: As an actor I am always auditioning for TV shows and movies. And as a singer I am always rehearsing and getting ready for my next performance. I am always excited to be a part of new projects.

YE: What are the top five songs you are currently listening to?

BF: At the moment, I am listening to “Somewhere to Run” by Krewella, “Catch and Release” by Deep End Remix by Matt Simmons, “Faded” by Alan Walker, “Make Me Like You” by Gwen Stefani, and “NvrStp” by Mosaic MSC.
