Arrow, S02E13 – Heir to the Demon

The episode opens with a wanted woman walking through customs and laying out a number of guards who were waiting for her.  Meanwhile, Moira is preparing to announce that she is running for mayor, but Felicity notes to Walter that there has been some unusual spending on her account.

Quentin goes to visit Laurel in hospital, and Laurel tries to convince him that she saw Sara at her apartment a few nights ago.  At this point Quentin is pretty sure Laurel’s been doing more than just drinking and is about ready to throw her to the Lohan lions in rehab.   Meanwhile, it turns out that Sara is indeed alive and hiding out at Arrow’s pad; she goes out for a walk and is approached by the ninja woman from the airport.  Arrow, who has been creeping from a safe distance, goes to protect Sara, but no worries because Sara and ninja lady start making out.  The only threat here is to Arrow’s masculinity.  Ninja lady spots Arrow and introduces herself as Nyssa, one of Sara’s cohorts in the League of Assassins.

Felicity has got more than she bargained for with her sleuthing efforts; she tracked Moira’s odd financial transactions to the doctor who delivered Thea and has found out that Malcolm Merlyn is Thea’s dad.  Moira begs Felicity not to tell Oliver and says he will shoot the messenger.   Meanwhile, Sara and Nyssa are having an emotional chat; Nyssa is begging Sara to come back to the League but Sara wants to hang around in Starling City to keep an eye on her family.  God knows Laurel seems to need it right now.

Flashback to Laurel and Sara when they were younger; Laurel is convinced she was going to marry Oliver one day, obviously not knowing that Sara is having an affair with him.  We see Oliver text Sara to invite her on the cruise that started the whole chain of events on the island.  Meanwhile, we find out that Laurel is in hospital not as a result of drug abuse as we began the episode thinking, but from a poisoned arrow, one of the League’s calling cards.  Nyssa and one of her cohorts snatch Sara/Laurel’s mom from Laurel’s bedside, as Nyssa wants Sara to know what it feels like to lose someone she loves.  She gives Sara an ultimatum to come back to the League.

The next day, at Moira’s mayoral announcement, Felicity is there but doesn’t quite tell Oliver what she knows about Moira and Merlyn, instead opting to make cryptic references and let Oliver figure it out for himself.  Meanwhile, Sara tells Nyssa that she will go back to the League if Nyssa releases Dinah.  They arrange to meet at the docks for Dinah to be returned to her family.   However, more lesbian drama ensues, with Sara trying to poison herself rather than have to return to the league, and Arrow and Nyssa getting into a bow and arrow fight for her honor.  Eventually, Nyssa agrees to leave without Sara, or Dinah.

Oliver goes home to confront Moira for being a slattern whilst Quentin and Dinah watch Laurel tear into Sara for all the drama she’s created; Moira had told them that Sara was dead after the cruise ship sank.  Happy families?  Not so much.  Sara goes back to Arrow HQ and her tryst with Nyssa is conveniently forgotten as she falls into Oliver’s arms.  Is there anybody in Starling City left for Oliver and Sara to kiss?  Tune in next time to find out!
