Australian singer Madison Daniel discusses her song “Love is Love”

Madison Daniel is a fast-rising 20-year-old singer-songwriter and actress from Melbourne, Australia. She began acting at age 13, when appeared on the popular Australian show, ‘Neighbours.’ In parallel with her budding acting career, Madison continued to focus on music. She worked with producer, Paul Beard, who has previously worked with James Blunt, Leona Lewis and other big name musicians.

In July, Madison’s Australian commercial hit record, ‘Love Is Love’, officially made its U.S. debut. The song has been on Spotify for the past few weeks and is rapidly gaining popularity. The song was written by Madison to celebrate LGBTQ rights, and in celebration of Australia’s recent legalization of same-sex marriage – a cause very near to her heart. She recently released a music video for the song, which was filmed in Australia. YEM spoke with the rising songstress about her music and her new single.

Young Entertainment Mag: How did you first get involved in music and acting?

Madison Daniel: I don’t recall the exact moment that I decided I wanted to act and do music, but my parents say that as soon as I could talk I was saying I wanted to sing and act and dance. I was brought up in a big crazy family, full of all-sorts of musical influences. My grandpa was a multi-instrumentalist who taught me theory and piano at a young age, my auntie is a singer and ever since I was little would sing with her. My dad was into old school rock, mum had a liking for alternative artists and my grandpa was predominantly a jazz and blues musician.

YEM: How would you describe your sound? How did you find your sound?

Madison: It’s so tricky, like with my tastes and influences so broad. Im creating my own pop-edge sound and once I’ve established myself as an artist I can’t wait to break the rules and incorporate rap, pop, jazz, acoustic all into one kind of vibe. My vision is definitely versatility with my own vibe to it. I am in the process of finding my own sound, it takes a lot of soul searching; it’s all very exciting really!

YEM: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?

Madison: Easy! Ed Sheeran! A cool acoustic-loop slash rap slash ballad with Ed would be a dream come true.

YEM: Your newest song is called “Love Is Love” and is a celebration of the LGBT community. How did this song come about? What inspired you to right a song about this topic?

Madison: I was in LA at the time of writing Love Is Love, whilst Australia was voting Yes or No for gay-marriage. Having a lot of gay friends and family myself, it made me so angry it was a conversation and seeing LA pride going on at the time it inspires me to write about the situation in Australia in hope for us to be able to celebrate same-love as well. I took the song to Paul Beard and whilst we were developing it the votes came through and a yes and we decided to make it a super happy, celebratory track!

YEM: You just released a music video for “Love is Love.” What was it like to film a music video?

Madison: Quick!! It all went so quick! it was a two-day shoot but felt like it was over in a second. It was all a lot of fun, i had some really clsoe friends apart of the action behind the scenes it made it such a beautiful first music video experience.

YEM: What’s ahead for you? Will you be touring?

Madison: I did in fact recently do a month acoustic tour up the East Coast of Australia for Love Is Love, which was super cool. Got an awesome feel for what it’s like to be on the road. Whats ahead specifically is unknown! All I know is that it is full of new sounds, new releases and a bunch of travel and live shows!
