This has been an exciting week for television. Lots of shows are airing their season finale episodes this week. Also, networks are announcing their newest shows that will be coming in the fall.
At the 2019 Upfronts, The CW told attendees about the newest additions coming to the channel in the year ahead. Above all, the new shows include spinoffs and new versions of classic characters.
This week, The CW released trailers for three upcoming shows. The new shows include Batwoman starring Ruby Rose, a new Nancy Drew series, and Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene.
Batwoman stars Ruby Rose as the title superhero character. Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
Katy Keene is a spin-off of Riverdale. In a timeless New York City, aspiring fashion designer Katy Keene meets Josie McCoy, fresh off the bus to chase her musical dreams. Their world is populated with kindred-spirit starving artists, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez – and his drag queen alter ego, Ginger. They’ll face obstacles, but they’ll stop at nothing to see their names in lights. The show stars Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale and Ashleigh Murray reprising her Riverdale character, Josie. The show will air mid-season. So most likely in early 2020.
Nancy Drew is a modern retelling of the classic mystery book heroine. Set in the summer after her high school graduation,18-year-old Nancy Drew thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation — and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.
Finally, it was previously announced that all of the current shows on The CW were renewed. So all your favorite dramas will be returning!
