Get ready to hear all your favorite songs from the Tony-winning award musical ‘ Dear Evan Hansen ’ to be played out as a movie!
It was directed by Stephen Chbosky. He is famous for his work for Perks of Being A Wallflower and Wonder. So, you know, you can bet that ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ will pull at your heartstrings.
The movie already seems to hold similarities to the musical. Ben Platt reprises his role as Evan Hansen. The introverted and socially-anxieted highschooler who meets Connor. Connor shares similarities with Evan but unlike Evan, isn’t trying to help himself. So, after one day Connor stumbles upon Evan printing out his therapist’s assignment, steals it, and disappears. Then, Connor commits sucide and those involved in his life try to find peace in Evan, believing him to be a very close friend. So, this movie looks like you need to have a box of tissues right next to you for any potential tear jerking moments.
From watching the trailer, it seems like the movie will also be featuring the musical’s songs. “You’ll Be Found” is the song playing throughout the trailer, and in the trailer’s Youtube description box it claims that, “Waving Through a Window,” “For Forever”,and “Words Fail” will also be featured in the movie version of the musical. So, while you are crying you can also sing along.
So, the trailer starts off with Evan fidgeting, trying to figure out what to write in his letter to himself. Later on, Connor is shown signing Evan’s cast stating “Now we can both pretend we have friends”, and in another scene, Connor is stealing his letter. The letter is returned of course but, by Connor’s parents after delivering the news of his sudden suicide. Towards the end of the trailer, Evan is seen to be finding peace for himself, healing, and possibly finding love. The emotions are through the roof!
