Degrassi S13E23 ”Unbelievable”

Becky and Drew try to get to the bottom of the assault

The episode begins with Zoe coming around after Miles’ party, seriously worse for wear and with no memory of what happened the night before. There are some pretty incriminating photos flying round, and Becky wants to turn Zoe’s behaviour into a cautionary tale about the dangers of teenagers abusing alcohol to be shown on Degrassi TV.  There are rumors flying round school that Zoe had sex with a random dude but she’s denying it; she decides to ask Miles who tells her that she tried to kiss him but nothing happened.  Becky grabs a camera and interrogates Zoe but she doesn’t take well to it.  However, Imogen has found video footage taken by someone who calls themselves ‘the Watcher’ that shows Zoe allegedly fooling around with two guys at the party.  Becky shows the footage to Drew who is disgusted – it looks like she was assaulted.  Becky, Imogen and Drew decide to get to the bottom of it.  Zoe is rehearsing for the Degrassi Sing Off, oblivious, when one of her friends shows her the video.

Miles has rehearsed a song for the Sing Off as a way to get Maya to forgive him.  Personally, if I were her, I would run, but she eats it up.  Zoe and her friends get up on stage but she starts having flashbacks and chokes, running off the stage.  Becky suspects Winston and Miles, as there is some security footage showing them dragging Zoe to the pool house.  The police are called and they come to see Miles right in the middle of his make up smooch with Maya.  When the police question Winston and Miles, they are able to show that they weren’t responsible from the time code on the video, so the police investigation goes wide.  The basketball team are prime suspects, and the basketball pep rally is canceled.

Zoe has to go for a medical examination; it looks like she was sexually assaulted.  There is typical backlash against her at school; people are gossiping, saying that she had sex with someone and then regretted it so cried rape.  Meanwhile, the Watcher reveals himself … he is a she!  She recommends they send out a bunch of accusatory texts to half the guys in school and wait to see what they turn up.  Sure, why not carpet bomb the school with a bunch of accusations!  Miles, sensitive as ever, goes to see Zoe to ask her to tell Maya that nothing happened between them, and Zoe says that it’s partially his fault for not protecting her when she was so drunk.

Becky and Imogen overhear Becky’s brother Luke talking to his friend about the accusatory text he got, and it sounds very incriminating.  Becky decides to get hold of his phone, and she finds that the images of Zoe are still on there.  Turns out that Luke is a grade A creep and she tells hims she’s going to the police.  Luke goes to see Zoe to tell her nobody will believe her and she should drop it.  Miles’ conscience finally kicks in and he tells the whole basketball team that he’s not playing because he knows two of them are responsible.  Zoe decides to announce it before the school that Luke assaulted her and Becky backs her up.  Luke is carted off by the police, along with his accomplice.  Drew, Dallas, Maya, Miles and Tristan all tell Zoe that they have her back and want to make sure that nobody talks bad about her at school.  Awwww.  Will poor Zoe finally get some peace now?  Tune in next week to find out.
