Check out rising star and actor Dorian Giordano who recently starred in the hip hop musical World’s Best, produced by Thomas Kail, also the director of the hit broadway musical Hamilton. In World’s Best, which is currently streaming on Disney+, twelve-year old math genius Prem Patel has to navigate the hardships of adolescence while also learning that his deceased father was a famous rapper. This leads Prem to pursue a career as a rap superstar, empowered by hip-hop music-fueled fantasies. Dorian plays Gabe, who takes Prem under his wing and supports him through his journey. We talked to Dorian about his role in the musical, working with the cast, and his other hobbies, brought to you by Young Entertainment Exclusive.

Because the musical has already been released on Disney+, if you are planning on reading this interview and have not watched the musical, this article will actively avoid any spoilers. For those planning to watch before reading this article, we highly recommend watching it first. And now, onto this interview and its refresher.

Dorian Giordano is an up-and-coming actor who got his start in the entertainment industry at just 13 years old. He hails from Mount Alberta, Canada and has already amassed credits including roles in 13: The Musical and Reindeer Games Homecoming. Outside of acting, he is a world champion professional freestyle BMX rider. Dorian plays Gabe in World’s Best, who he describes as a laid-back older brother figure to Prem.

Dorian said he first got into acting through his connections as a BMX rider. He was first hired to do stunt work on bikes in a NERF commercial, and the producer recommended he get an agent, Dorian then went on to take acting classes and the rest is history.

We asked Dorian about acting in a musical and he said he enjoyed the choreography and improv aspects of it. While he never envisioned himself in a musical, he said he enjoyed the experience, also considering he is a big hip hop and rap fan. Dorian said his favorite part of playing Gabe is that it is a different type of role than he has played in the past. Dorian is used to playing upbeat and high energy characters but Gabe is much calmer and more mature, bringing a lot of wisdom and experience to help Prem navigate the rap and hip hop world.

When asked about working on set, Dorian said he was able to form close connections with all of his costars and the crew and said they had a lot of laughs while working long hours each day.  He said it was surreal seeing himself on a streaming service like Disney+.

We ended the interview by asking Dorian what he hopes people take away from the musical and he said World’s Best teaches you to follow your dreams. He hopes audiences are able to watch the musical for themselves and simply enjoy it and connect to it.
