Island Of Excess Love Francesca Lia Block Top Teen Books

island-of-excess-love-francesca-lia-blockSYNOPSIS:

Pen has lost her parents. She’s lost her eye. But she has fought Kronen; she has won back her fragile friends and her beloved brother. Now Pen, Hex, Ash, Ez, and Venice are living in the pink house by the sea, getting by on hard work, companionship, and dreams. Until the day a foreboding ship appears in the harbor across from their home. As soon as the ship arrives, they all start having strange visions of destruction and violence. Trance-like, they head for the ship and their new battles begin.

WHY SHOULD YOU CHECK IT OUT?

In this sequel to LOVE IN THE TIME OF GLOBAL WARMING, a modern retelling of the Odyssey, Pen is back–this time her story following along to the Aeneid. Bound to be a less wanderlusting tale, we’re excited to see Pen’s morals pushed and pulled, her relationships strained, and a whole new set of characters for them to meet and mess up with.

Like the cover in the previous novel, this one has a really fanciful artistic edge like street art wall murals.  We see the antlered ruler of the island, his forehead pressed to Pen’s, and below the ocean and the ship used to reach that far away magical place.  These would both make beautiful posters.

Author Francesca Lia Block is a recipient of the prestigious Margaret A. Edwards Lifetime Achievement Award.  She has been publishing novels, short stories, essays, memoirs and poetry since 1989.  You may have read some of her other work like WEETZIE BAT, ECHO, or her most recent TEEN SPIRIT.
