But nothing could prepare anyone for this! Kiernan Shipka, the star character of Netflix’s Riverdale spin-off Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is onboard to reprise her role of Sabrina for the CW drama.
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed the news in a statement:
“We’ve been talking about having Sabrina visit Riverdale since season 1, so it’s thrilling that this is finally happening, as part of our ‘Rivervale’ special event,” Aguirre-Sacasa says. “It’s also perfect that she shows up to help Cheryl Blossom during her hour of greatest need. Everyone on set lost their minds — I think fans will, too. It’s really fun and special.”
Sabrina will arrive on Riverdale in season 6’s fourth episode, titled “The Witching Hour(s)”:
“Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) is performing a dangerous spell, one that may mean the difference between life and death for a beloved member of the Blossom family, according to a description of the episode. Luckily, she’s getting a much-needed assist from everybody’s favorite 20-something witch, the iconic Sabrina Spellman (Shipka), visiting from Greendale in this years-in-the-making crossover.”
Shipka celebrated the news by sharing a pic from the set of Riverdale on her Instagram page. “From Greendale to Riverdale. See u in Season 6,” she wrote.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina came to an end on Netflix in 2020 after two seasons. However, now from the ashes of “Chilling Adventures,” Riverdale gains back a character that can help further storylines and likely help create lots of new drama in the process.
Wait a minute, let’s not forget – didn’t Sabrina die in the series finale of her Netflix spinoff show? Riverdale writers have likely already figured that storyline issue out. Sabrina wouldn’t be the first supernatural being to return from the dead. It should be interesting to see how her story gets tied back into Riverdale though:
“In this week’s Season 5 finale, Cheryl invoked a centuries-old curse spoken by her ancestor Abigail while she was burned alive as a witch, and a cold wind blew through Riverdale as a result. The curse was originally on the ancestors of Archie, Betty, and Jughead, so Cheryl’s curse could spell trouble for those three when Season 6 kicks off with a five-episode event, dubbed ‘Rivervale.’”
