Innovative and sometime controversial comedy Black-ish returned to ABC last week with its second season premiere. Starring as one of the siblings of the TV family is multitalented up-and-comer Miles Brown, who at only 10 years old, has both an acting career and a career in hip hop as a dancer where he is better known as Baby Boogaloo. We chatted with Miles about his role on Black-ish as twin Jack Johnson, about his TV family, and about where he sees his diverse career heading.
YE: What’s it like playing Jack? Do you relate personally to the character?
Miles: “My role as Jack Johnson is the story of a younger twin who is a hyper kid and gets distracted really easy. His older sister tends to be more of the smart twin as my character is the smart aleck of the two. Jack is so hyper that he got his nickname Party Time from his dad (Anthony Anderson). This is similar to myself, because I always find myself dancing in school, before bedtime and even in church.
YE: What’s it like working with Anthony Anderson? And Tracee Ross?
Miles: “My TV family is similar to my real family, because even though I am acting, they both always talk about making sure we stick together like a family should do and support each other. Another thing that’s awesome about my Black-ish family is they make working on set really fun. We are always laughing because of the awesome improv that Anthony and Tracee do. We also take breaks and end up playing games like football and Heads Up.
YE: In your dream world, what kind of roles would you want to see yourself taking in the future?
Miles: “In the past I would have loved to have been in the show Martin because I would have had fun with Martin Lawrence. In the future, I would love to be in a Black-ish movie about how the Johnsons go on vacation to Africa. That would be funny. I also would want to be in a move remake of Like Mike with Lebron as the player and me as the kid who takes his talent. My last wish is to play in a new Iron Man movie and be Robert Downey’s new sidekick.”
Wow. This kid has some real talent and ambition. Martin Lawrence and Robert Downey, Jr.? Talk about #squadgoals!!! Check out Miles in Black-ish on ABC on Wednesdays this fall!!!
