The HOUR-LONG premiere a few weeks ago set us up for another laugh-filled season and gave us plenty to look forward to. “Suddenly, Last Summer” was the first half-hour of the “Modern Family” season 5 premiere. There, we followed the Dunphy and Pritchett families soaking in the last remnants of summer. In an attempt to have a week of no children, Claire kicked into organizational overdrive to rearrange the kids’ activities while Phil goggles at the “Beautiful Mind” scene in his jean hot pants. Meanwhile, Jay and Gloria helped Manny get ready for his first solo trip to Colombia. The second half-hour of the “Modern Family” season 5 premiere, “First Days”, took place in back-to-school season after all of the summertime hoopla ends. It was a day of firsts for the Dunphy and Pritchett clan. Little Luke and Manny had their first day of high school. HIGH SCHOOL ALREADY? WHEN WILL THESE KIDS STOP GROWING? Will Luke still surprise as the most misguided mastermind? Will Manny’s underappreciated romanticism finally find its bearings in a new setting? All to be revealed throughout the season. While the kids headed back to school, the parents found themselves in new environments, as well. Claire started her new job at Jay’s company, Cameron became a substitute teacher and Mitch attempted to get Lily ready for preschool. One can only hope she doesn’t offend too many parents throughout the season with that mouth of hers! Tune into Modern Family Wednesday nights on ABC. Check local listings for times.
