“I really wanted to be a part of it.” Mark Ricci on his excitement of joining Gen V series and growing his YouTube channel

Mark Ricci has become a jack-of-all-trades as an actor, content creator, YouTuber, and comedian. Through years of work, he is a storyteller who can put his own spin on things. One of Mark’s latest projects was joining Gen V, a spinoff series of The Boys on Prime Video. We got to chat with Mark to learn more about his love of The Boys franchise, how he has grown his YouTube channel, and his goals for the future.

“The biggest challenge was actually acting and not being so excited that I was in The Boys universe finally.”

Mark said he has been working on his YouTube channel, Movie Man Mark, for the last 12 years, and it has grown to almost 500,000 subscribers with over 850 videos. His other TV credits include the Discovery channel shows Fear Thy Neighbor, Web of Lies and the animated series’ Firearm Sam and Super Wish. He can also be seen playing Peter Parker on Six Side Studios’ Spiderman: The Final Swing film series. In addition to his acting credits, Mark became the youngest teenager with a comedy special on Prime Video.

Gen V is a spin-off to the hit Prime show The Boys, and was renewed for a second season. Gen V explores the first generation of superheroes (“supes”) at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting to know that their superpowers come from Compound V. These heroes have to put their physical and moral boundaries to the test, and compete for the school’s top ranking. Mark’s character Rich is thrown into the underground facility of the Woods at Godolkin. Mark said he had auditioned for The Boys series a few times and then was able to get an audition for Gen V, which was a surreal experience after being such a fan of the franchise.

“I was a big fan of the universe, I really wanted to be a part of it.”

We asked Mark about his YouTube channel, and he said it mainly started off with movie reviews, before going into movie reactions and news. Now he mainly focuses on live action roleplaying with all different characters from pop culture, and enjoys creating his own storylines.

“It’s me but I interact with all these crazy characters from different universes, and we go on adventures and it’s really fun.”

Mark said he hopes to continue upping the production value of his YouTube videos, and one day hopes to build sets of his own where his videos look even more like episodes of television.

“My goal for my channel besides just the obvious of scaling it and subscribers is getting it to a place where the productions just get higher and higher.”

Consider this:

  • If at first you don’t get a role you want or are told no, keep trying. Persistence and perseverance pay off.
  • Set goals for yourself. Working toward specific goals will keep you on track in your journey.
  • Long form videos are videos with a longer duration, typically more than two minutes. These videos are better at telling stories and moving ideas along.
